It was mentioned earlier in this thread about the amount of tarmac patching in the market Square... Well I think that work started today to rectify that. Large area cordoned off and said tarmac had been removed and repaired with stone/mortar ...

There was probably a bit of it going on last week - I wasn't 100% sure what they were up to, but they had excavated some patches and didn't seem to have any tarmac immediately available.

Visit the actual Cornish people on the housing estates of Bodmin, Redruth, St. Austell and you'll see poverty. The education and health systems are terrible in Cornwall. Move away from the tourist bubble and all those who have nothing to do with real Cornwall, and the data soon adds up. My sister lived in Cornwall for 30 years and married a Cornishman. No job opportunities for the kids and they all moved away. There is no high skilled employers, the jobs, such as they are for locals who can't buy a business are basically casual zero hours contracts and minimum wage crap.
I live in Redruth, it is not in poverty. I work in St Ives. I moved down here 3 months ago as a complete outsider. No contacts, just a Hospitality CV on the job market. I’m doing well by my standards. There are also many very local people here earning good money, construction, mechanics etc. Life is what you make of it.

In the environs of Padstow, the percentage of house sales accounted for in the last two years as 'second homes' was 67%.

There's a lot of money in Cornwall, for sure, but most of it flies in, eats out, takes a shit, then f**ks off.

Interesting to see if that is true, given the ongoing decline of the precinct it would make sense to take one the remaining units at kingsmead.
I've seen it rumoured a few places - that would leave that entire run of shops apart from Bright House free for redevelopment

They had a pretty dire env health report recently, but I think it’s rates and rent. It’s reopening as a dessert shop in Burntwood

Enjoying a drop of red.

Sorry, but that just made me laugh out loud.

A fool and his/her/the bank's money and all that...

Do you have any evidence to back that up?

Well before I completely pick apart the report and the data companies woeful track record, this data has got nothing to do with rich or poor people are in an area.

It is not about personal or household income, or how much surplus cash the average person has, nor is it about how many people might be out of work.

The report is about the growth and development of an area and is a manipulation of data at best. But that is the least of this type of reports worries and has been accused of allegedly using data as more than a decade out of date very recently.

That is before I would into the real glaring issues of such reporting.

Nice place, no shortage of dickheads, expensive.
Just my opinion obviously .
Edit for cider: Bad Apple is a lovely drop but not at £4.50 a pop.

Morecambe & Wise were on Sunday Night at the London Palladium the week after Rudolf Nureyev had been on in some fairly dramatic tights.

In those far off, black and white days, it went out live.

"Rudolf Nureyev was on here last week - did you see it?"

"Oh, yes. I think everybody saw it!"

Wrists were slapped....
