Because of the limescale we suffer from we bought one of these

from Tesco back in November. Use it to wipe down the shower screen and splash backs after each shower. Takes less than a minute and we've gone from having to clean the shower of lime deposits at least once a week to once a month or less, saves on time and cleaning products. En suite below hasn't been 'cleaned' for about three weeks.

I use one of those vacuum squeegees , gets it off and drys the glass instantly. Handy if the bathroom suffers from condensation too.

My Mum's trusty old mechanical Seiko from 1967 has finally packed in - it's just basically worn to the point of not being reliable now. Fixing it is probably not an economic repair, I suspect.

So, I had a look round and spotted a Seiko solar watch in a very similar style on eBay. A couple of people had put very low bids on it - I went a fiver more and they gave up, and nobody else bothered. So we now have a nice 'new' watch which should never need winding - all that will ever need adjusting is the date, and only after each non-31 day month, not that she'll bother much about that. She doesn't wear a watch much, and so ends up having to set it almost every time she wants to use it - this should preclude that chore.

Living in the EU, they should be able to avoid the twice yearly clock-changing madness shortly, too.

A full solar charge should last six months in darkness apparently.

It's been hanging in a lampshade for a few hours and seems to be running OK.

I am not old.

I am just watching the date turn over, as it is already approaching midnight in my non-clock-changing house.

I'm hoping the day will also change subsequently - they may stage the turnovers to reduce the load on the 'motor'.

It's loose on me - must have belonged to a big bird - just researching how to get a few links out of the bracelet.

Edit :- Well, the date clicked over at some point between five and ten past midnight. The day started to change at around twenty five to one.

There are actually fourteen days, English and French for each one. You choose which sequence to be in and then it clicks over by two each night - I hope.

We shall see in the morning.

Second edit :- It had changed from SAT to SAM by half-past one, at which point I ceased monitoring the situation. This morning, it is displaying SUN.

All is well.

I was so impressed by my mother's watch that I kept an eye out for one for myself.

Hers has lost less than a second a week, which amounts to probably about 18 months before it's a minute out.

The day will stay in sync essentially for ever - as will the time, when the clock changing madness ends. The date will need adjusting five times a year, if it's of any great concern.

I found a nice (and cheap) one on eBay, virtually identical to the picture here.

It arrived whilst I was away, set to the correct time, day and date - I'm just watching it start to turn over for tomorrow now.

Interestingly, the chap said he was selling it "as I don't wear it very often now", which is essentially the reason that I wanted one. I only wear a watch maybe once a month, and want to be able to just pick it up and put it on without setting or winding it and without wondering if the battery will give out at on unfortunate point...

Nice watch. Photo taken on a Sunday or it belonged to Ozzy?

I couldn't stay awake last night long enough to see what the second language is on this one. - one day (or night) I will.

Although, I did discover that the luminous markers are functional.

Being away when I bought it involved a few messages with the vendor, who "sounded" distinctly foreign, so it could be anything, we'll see.

Mmm, it occurs to me that, whether I've got French or Spanish, I'm going to see Lun and Mar for the next couple of nights - I really need to get to the Wednesday/Thursday changeover to get an unequivocal answer, unless I have German, Arabic, etc., which would not be ambiguous.

Or run the wheel on manually, of course.

Under armour had a weird non-advertised fire sale yesterday, got 2 pairs of running shoes for £30 (for me and the exes daughter). Supposed to be £120 a pair so hopefully be OK, just worried mine won't fit as I bounce between a 9.5 and 10 depending on brand.

Today, I went looking for a wheelchair for someone, the Hospice shops often have one, but, of course, there were none today.

I did get an unnecessary clock, a Karcher patio cleaner head, an electronic 'vernier' caliper and a bandsaw blade, though.

Sounds like the average visit to the middle of Lidl or Aldi
