The President of the United States of America.

It's pretty stupid to enlist some sort of army to protest against the visit of the President of the USA. Even if the person that is the President of the USA is a bit of a dick.

The title will always be bigger than the man that bears it.

Have some fecking respect.

I'd have more respect for the man if he showed some for others.

Dignity of the office and all.

It may be that some like to touch their forelock to a title. That's fine, their choice.
I'm of the opinion that respect has to be earned, it doesn't come with a title, or a badge, or a hat.
So far, for me, this fellah hasn't earned one iota of respect.

We all know he’s a wanker but he’s the wanker that’s head of state of our biggest Allie so unfortunately his position warrants a state visit.

The office has its own dignity, and our respect is due to the people of the US, of which the President is but a representative.

If we can bite our cheeks for the Heads of State of China, Jacob Zuma, the House of Saud, etc, we can probably suck it up for the Donald, what?

A couple of things on that.

How much dignity is left when he's just clocked up 10,000 lies.

Just after the invitation he pushed the 'theory' that the UK spied on his campaign in order to help Obama

"
The president published this missive via Twitter:

“ ‘Former CIA analyst Larry Johnson accuses United Kingdom Intelligence of helping Obama Administration Spy on the 2016 Trump Presidential Campaign.’ @OANN WOW! It is now just a question of time before the truth comes out, and when it does, it will be a beauty!”
"

Dignity you say?

And I can mock him. I may even be under an obligation to do so.

There might be another name to add to that list. Our Vlad the Lad. The wheeler and dealer in the shadows. The puppet master .. (GRU thugs notwithstanding.) :raise:

I have no problem with that whatsoever, and truly believe it's your right, if not indeed your obligation to do so.

We can probably almost all agree that he is... not exactly the right man at the right time?

TBF State visits aren't thrown about like confetti, but they're never exactly without controversy - my point is more that it is somewhat hypocritical to shake the proverbial fist at this State visit whilst limp-wristing the shitfest guest-list Brenda has had to glad hand for the past decade.

Spoiler alert - it's not exactly loaded with the good and the great.

Mr J Stalin
Mr A Hitler
Mr Pol Pot
Mr Caligula
King Leopold
Mr Genghis Khan

In their day were representatives of the populous......
I don't think any of these people were ever even offered the possibility of a State Visit to the UK.

Though it would be an interesting thought experiment to think who of them might warrant one and why?
