Hi all,

Moving to Stafford and found a lovely house for sale for £270k. The only problem is it's by silkmore left of the co op by rickerscote road and I've found some disturbing things about that area online . Anyone know that area or live near there for any good advice?

Much appreciated

Are you referring to the development built on the site of the former South End Club?

I'm sure other members will have a punt?

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me. Not sure if that was once there. It's on Rickerscote Road by the roundabout by a park. They are the new builds. Just worried and concerned after hearing bad things about silkmore and the surrounding area. Just wondered where the new builds are the end of silkmore wasn't as bad as people make out..

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me it's by st Peter's church the new builds there by the roundabout and park
I'm sure the houses themselves are fine but the area does have a reputation for being a tad rough (though we're not talking Walsall rough, to keep things in perspective).

If I remember correctly @Gadget used to live fairly locally and might be able to offer a perspective.

£270k buys you a nice house in many other parts of Stafford also, that might be a little more pleasant. Try looking at Weeping Cross, Hilcroft Park and Wildwood.

I was thrown out of the Alpine Lodge in around 1978/9, but it's probably a bit quieter now.

I'm not aware of any general issues around there that you wouldn't get elsewhere. Certainly rather less of a flooding concern that you might have at the other end of Silkmore Lane.

My experience of (other people's) local new builds in recent years would lead me to have a very good look at the building before committing myself...

£270k would get you quite a bit more if you go elsewhere in Stafford - without having to live next to a roundabout, or having to buy a dubious new build.

Given it’s a good £100k over what a 3-bed costs, you can do quite well

I must have been drinking in there the same time as @Gramaisc . I still call it The Alpine Lodge roundabout.

Don't know what it's Iike to live there nowadays, but used to be pretty rough back in the days I knocked around those parts in the 70's .

If I had 270k to spend on a house, I wouldn't choose that area.

£270k would buy you something decent in a “better” part of town I would’ve thought
Yes, I used to live up this estate, parents still do. Lovely area, pretty quiet, and very little trouble, and the houses aren't even thirty years old. Personally, I'd have another look if you're already doubting it.

That's a property in Isabel close in castle house gardens btw.

I'd suggest Doxey as many new houses are being built in that area and is only like a five minute drive to the town centre
