Just walked past Boots and Greggs, all their windows have been smashed.

Apparently some tosser felt the need to go round with a hammer, this follows spoons and the casino the other week. Probably some crack head wanting food and money for more drugs. The council needs to start clearing the streets of these door way druggies. They either need help, rehoming elsewhere in sheltered accommodation, kicking out the town or locking up. Don't see why retailers who are already struggling , have to foot the bill.

Boots are already reviewing their stores, if more incidents happen , they'll just get rid of the store , all because the council , and the police and letting the town go to shit. I dunno why it's got to a point where people have literally set up homes in store door ways.

Officers were called to Greengates Street, in Stafford, between 10.30pm and 11.30pm last night following reports someone had broken the windows at Greggs and Boots.

Today Laura Tinsley, of no fixed address, has been charged with two counts of criminal damage and one of possessing a bladed article.

The 32-year-old was due to face magistrates at North Staffordshire Justice Centre this afternoon (July 11).

Staffordshire Police are still appealing for witnesses and have asked any witnesses to contact 101 quoting incident 872 of July 10.

They were there yesterday as well in exactly the same place. I asked what it is about, it is a new initiative in the county when after officers had finished their shifts they show their faces in town centres.

That how is was put to me....not sure what they aim to achieve.

So this is the gobby "homeless" woman who is a pain in the arse once she has had a drink, offering blowjobs for a fiver? She will have no money to pay for the damage she has done so the Retailers will, yet again be footing the bill. She will get slap on the wrist and be making a nuisance of herself again within a week. According to the Police I spoke to none of the Stafford homeless are actually homeless - they have all been offered accommodation but choose not to take it. Stafford is now becoming a magnet for them because, amongst other reasons, there is no ticket control at the Railway station so they can get off a train and stroll straight into town.

If it makes you feel any better it’ll be the insurance footing the bill, not the retailers

First of all, you assume that the Retailers would be insured. Many small Retailers and some quite large Retailers aren't insured for this because the cost of the premiums far outweigh the cost of the repair and the resulting hike in premiums. It's a balancing act. Secondly the glib "don't worry your insured" misses the whole point. Boots in particular are the victims of so much theft and criminal activity that I am amazed they actually stay open anywhere - I would certainly have walked away years ago. We simply don't deserve shops when we either participate, encourage or shrug our shoulders at criminal damage and shoplifting, treating both as minor purely because they don't affect us personally. Putting extra staff on is not the answer, shoplifters know they can just ignore staff as they are trained not to intervene. Harsh sentences, decent compensation/fines and higher police activity is what is needed to stop the spiral that has started. This activity taints the town and the population.
