Enjoying a drop of red.
If ever The Good Lord Stafford falls on hard times he could retrain to become a complete Bar Steward.

He'd be good at that, with minimal training.

Well, its seems to be quite wonderful, according to

I had a great site visit today to the new Stafford Rugby Club. What an amazing place I was blown away by the size, prospective plans and facilities it will have to offer. Definitely something Stafford will be proud of. The club promises to be not only sports facility offering space for every kind of sport or exercise but a community hub open to all, everyone will be able to have a drink at the bar which looks out onto a large patio and over the pitches, function rooms, conference rooms, ample parking.
A huge undertaking and very exciting. Due to officially open in October
Thank you to all involved for having the vision and tenacity to see it through and keeping the Doxey Marshes in mind too
Thanks Gareth Phillips see you in a few months

so all that worry over nothing then

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
You know, there are actually some people who want and are looking forward to the new rugby club premises. Not everyone in Stafford hates the idea.

And, before anyone jumps down my throat and starts shouting at me, I am NOT one of them. I have no interest in rugby. I'm just saying...

I'm not against the rugby club itself just where they chose to build it.

There are numerous other locations in need of redevelopment around Stafford they could have built on.

Stafford Borough Council has a Bio-Diversity Officer that advises Borough Councillors on sensitive matters such as these. County-wide we also have the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, upon whom we generally entrust oversight on matters of this nature.

In this instance, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust were strongly against this 'development', and the Borough's own Bio-Diversity Officer advised our Councillors against this scheme in agreement with the objections from Staffordshire Wildlife Trust.

Luckily we had people like @RowanDraper that were on that Planning Committee, that could bring their own considerable experience to bear to overrule these obviously ill informed 'opinions' of these unnecessary 'experts' , and make sure that Lord Stafford was able to monetise assets that would have otherwise remained irretrievably dormant.

Hold on a second, did I say "make sure that Lord Stafford was able to monetise assets that would have otherwise remained irretrievably dormant"?

I meant, of course, " create a vital sporting arena for the benefit of the whole of Stafford ".

I'm always getting those two things mixed up.

A Stafford sports club has been granted a premise license for its new grounds after a long-running battle with neighbors which reached the High Court.

Stafford Rugby Club is relocating from its ground near Newport Road to a new site at Blackberry Lane, near Doxey Marshes, after securing planning permission for the move in 2016.

Residents living near the new ground fought against the plans and even took their battle to the High Court. Concerns raised included potential loss of open space on the Virginia Park estate for an access road and the siting of facilities on land affected by flooding.

And the latest application to Stafford Borough Council – this time for a premises license for the new clubhouse, also received objections from residents. Nine people wrote to the council, questioning the need for a closing time of 12am on weekdays and 2am on weekends.

Resident Mark Bate, speaking at a licensing sub-committee hearing on Monday, raised concerns that the site could become a “destination venue for music events” as well as a sports club.

He said: “There have been two matches played there on a test basis and there was shouting and swearing going on. We have children there and it is going to cause an awful lot of disturbance.

“To have carte blanche to open until 2am I think is wrong for a sports club. I understand there are certain dates in the calendar that are applicable and they can apply for a late license – but not have the club open until 2am. It will end up as a commercial place to have live music over the course of time.

“At one house that backs onto the rugby club the residents are blind and they didn’t know anything about this – they have never been informed. They are right behind the car park and it’s going to affect their lives terribly.

“There was no information about this and no consultation. Residents are upset about it and so am I – it’s just 20m from my house to the rugby club.”

But Barry Fuggle from Stafford Rugby Club, which has been based at Castlefields for 70 years, said the proposed new premises license was similar to that covering its current site.

“We have been testing the (new) pitch – I believe we are not going to be there until everything is completed at the club,” he told Monday’s hearing.

“The club was re-orientated to address concerns of residents, by putting all the entrances, doors and windows facing away from houses. The entrance was going to be Timberfield Road but that was changed to go down Blackberry Lane – cars are not going to be driving past people’s houses and people are not going to be walking past houses.

“We have worked very hard with the responsible bodies and listened to the concerns expressed by residents at the time of the planning application. We had to go through a complete re-draw of the clubhouse to make sure the sound was going away from houses.

“We’re a community club and we’re open to everybody. We want to be as good a neighbor as we possibly can.”

The committee granted the premises license as applied for.

But Councillor Ann Edgeller, who chaired Monday’s hearing, said: “Please use the club licence responsibly and please take into consideration the concerns of neighbours.”
