Why can't more motorway sign operators do this?

Just had a really good journey up to Northumberland helped enormously by the traffic sign operators displaying signs "saying keep left unless you are overtaking".

There was virtually universal compliance and as a result everyone made good progress.

The only exceptions were a few foreign lorry drivers who wanted to drive in the right hand lanes when passing other signs reminding them their freight licences may not be valid come the 1st November :)

Most honest display was on the A14 between the A1 & Newmarket. For several days they read "Abandon all hope ye who enter here". It was while they were being installed and tested but you might not have noticed the small plasticy signs near the ground saying they were out of use.

Good but this takes some beating (well until recent performances that is)
