Beer glasses that fill up from the bottom at Aintree races in the freezing cold.

The glasses have a £1 deposit but I fear I may be well past the point of redemption by the time we need to leave :)

For a minute there I thought you were talking about that 'Holy Grail' we've all been searching for:

Went to the Eden Project for the first time today. About an hours drive despite the bloody TomTom's fetish for tiny country lanes. (Took no notice of it on the way back.) Quite cold when I set out, so put on a good coat. That peeled off sharpish in the Rainforest Biodome !! Was there for over three hours and still didn't get to see everything, though I did all the Biodomes. But, the pass is good for a year !!! :)
I was quite impressed especially from the high observation platform in the RainForest dome. They're apparently working on a geothermal scheme to provide them with energy, burrowing down toward warm rocks deep below. It was quite busy, but not crowded. I think I'll check it out on a seasonal basis.

Lovely morning going into Stafford this morning; bare trees silhouetted against a pink skyline put into soft focus with a light mist.
Wish I'd had my camera with me, the 'phonecam probably would not have done it justice.

I think I might have to go out and buy an anorak !!

Today I downloaded some software in order to receive a weather facsimile chart (Fax) and spent the morning figuring it out and then taking a chart transmitted on HF (short wave.) More than 30 years ago when I used to receive these charts on a dedicated receiver on the bridge, one Captain reliably informed me that the correct way to tune into a FAX signal was to listen for the sound of 'tearing knickers.' (I didn't like to ask how he knew what 'tearing knickers' sounded like, I know which side my bread is buttered. )

So here is my wx fax chart duly received from Bracknell GFA (Bracknell it says, but I think that's a leftover from a bygone era.) First one I've took in more than 30 years … errrr .… and it does sound a bit knicker tearingy I can't deny.

I wonder if you can buy a 'knicker tearing' anorak ... :embarrass:
