The strat will be needed for Saturday if the forecast is right. More rain and wind could be a disaster for Stafflood.

I was a big fan of John Wyndham back in the day. 'The Day of the Triffids' still stands as one of the best post apocalyptic tales written. 'The Kraken Wakes' and 'The Midwich Cuckoos' (film version for some completely insane reason called 'The Village of the Damned') were also classic SciFi horror stories.
He wasn't that much of a fan of happy endings either.

As usual the films of the books failed to deliver. particularly the crap early 60's effort of The Day of the Triffids.

Absolutely. I was pissed off when I saw it. Subsequent TV series weren't too bad, but some other remakes were utter rubbish. The original 'The Village of the Damned' with George Sanders was quite faithful to the book, despite the crappy title.

One film version that utterly desecrated the book was David Lynch's version of 'Dune' in 1984. He took it upon himself to rewrite a classic book. Everybody keeps telling me he his a great artist, ... I think he's a total prat. As I understand it they're filming it again directed by Dennis Villeneuve with music from Hans Zimmer.
