I don't know how people cope with driving and living in stafford, glad I don't

It's a farking joke, even if I could drive I'd still walk upto 45mins weather permitting to avoid this shit

Best thing is?

Only going to get worse with 1000's of houses being built, enjoy folks.

Treat it like a game. Every day you check the map for red lines over breakfast. Any yellow rectangles spotted at the side of the road are committed to memory. New potholes are filed away into the 'onboard database'. Then you head out onto the ever-changing Snakes & Ladders board...

It is a game. I was stuck near TK Maxx and was going through the various routes that would get me home. This is a regular thing

That's why I'm often seen walking 45 mins to town and 45 mins back in the week, even in the horrendous weather conditions.

When I have the car in the week to go to Worcester, I don't mind the motorway traffic/ jams.....it's driving from one end of Stafford to the other to drop hubby off at work & pick him back up later that takes so long and gets me most frustrated.

An electronic information sign has appeared at the end of Greyfriars before the roundabout advising that there will be approximately 20 weeks of roadworks (gas) taking place nearby from the 17th Feb.

Nothing is mentioned on the Roadworks website on Stone Road or Eccleshall Road though.

An identical electronic information sign with identical information has appeared on the A34 Stone Road opposite Aldi in Stone Southbound. Which means the precise location of these gas works starting next week is slightly sketchy?

There are signs at the motorway end of the dual-carriageway link road at Junction 14 which may indicate that there's a fortnight's worth of overnight closures at the beginning of March - or they may say something else altogether - short of getting out, reading them properly and making notes, I couldn't do much more than take a few seconds to glance at them...

So the load on the roundabout explains why there was two lanes cordoned off at 10pm tonight

Looks like it left a mark of some kind just before the A34 exit to Kingsmead?

Although the report above suggests there was lamppost damage, there aren't any street lights on the inside there, but it does look like the traffic lights probably suffered - and there could be barrier damage, too, plus some divots in the road surface.

Not that a few more would be noticed.

They did 'unplug' the opposite set of lights during the winching event this afternoon, though they were still functioning whilst lying on the ground.

Is anyone aware of any overnight closures on the J13 sliproads this weekend , or full M6 closures through the area ?( Can't see actual closures mentioned for tonight on Highways England, just 'disruption' mentioned ). Hoping to get on southbound 5am-ish tomorrow morning....

I did a return trip to Edgbaston (M6/AstonX-way) yesterday evening (returned about 10:30pm) and don't recall seeing any notices (apart from regarding this weekend's weather, I think). Even the M5 seems OK - 50mph maybe, but no lane closures.

Auto stop starts are in electric vehicles too right?

They do it by definition, there’s no engine ticking over so when you’re not moving you’re not putting power (maybe a teeny tiny trickle?) into the power train.

The internals themselves draw a minuscule amount. I drive one of the smallest battery EVs that’s still viable as a daily driver (Nissan Leaf 2015, battery size is 24kwh) and at full blast the heater and electronics would last a couple of hours if I only had 10% left (and I wouldn’t be caught with 10% left on a motorway...). Bear in mind these batteries are big enough to happily power the average home for a day or two, it’s just that moving a tonne of metal requires an enormous amount of power.

In short you aren’t running out of “fuel” from heating the thing any more than you would heating your car in a petrol or diesel. In a scenario like that image I’d be more worried about losing the last 10% of liquid fuel from the engine ticking over than I would my battery dying - EVs thrive at low speeds, I get my best miles per kw at 30mph. And it doesn’t take long when owning an EV to know how much you can get out of it in terms of range.

It is impossible to rely solely on any kind of machine …. EVER.

Make a note.

It's called The Second Law of Thermodynamics.

You just have to live with probabilities which will always lessen with time. At a fundamental level … that's all there is.
