Expect some potential cuffy remarks pointed in the direction of Asda. Having visited there tonight we've discovered that they've removed a large number of normal checkouts (including the ones you used yourself with the checkout belt) and installed more of the "scan it yourself" ones. I think they only have 4 normal checkouts left !!!

I remember when they tried that rotary checkout thing. That went down well for the whole 3 weeks it was there. Not sure anyone actually knew how it worked.

Also I’m on the other side of that fence, I’m generally disappointed when a store doesn’t have self service tills.

I've never understood why you need a belt for the self check out tills.

I just pick my good's out of my trolley, scan them and pack them.

What's the point of putting them on a belt to then pick them up again to scan them?

Not sure what you mean by a "scan it yourself" till though?

Oh I'm not that fussed but some people (possibly those with advanced years) are going to be in for a big shock....

I'm OK with scanning my own basket - hell, I'm even now OK with weighing fruit and veg - but if there's a chance I'll have to scan a "big shop" trolley-full myself, then I might just shop elsewhere, even if I do have to pay a bit more (or a bit less if it's Lidl or Aldi).

I've never been able to just use 'Scan and go' as I go around the shop, then just simply pay and go. Always end up having to have wait for an assistant to have items 'age' checked or security tags taken off, or be the one to have a spot check on my bags to make sure a few selected random items have been scanned properly .

Again with the self service tills , have had to wait my turn for the assistant to come over most times after 'unexpected item in baggage area' , ' age restricted item' , or wait to have security tags removed.

The self service checkouts are generally more for baskets not big trolley shops. I think the idea is if you have a big shop you should use Scan & Go now instead (which makes sense, it’s pretty easy to use tbh)

Ah ok I just call both the belt and the self service tills as self check out.

The only problem I have with the Asda ones I the automated lady who is very impatient and doesn't give me much chance to get from scan to bag and keeps asking me if I want to bag this item.

I always tell her yes but she never listens and then grasses me up when I buy a beer!!!

I told the one in Sainsburys once to ''Shut up, Bitch!'' I'm sure the supervisor thought I was saying that to the ''cough'' lovely assistant that I was chatting to.

Okay, slight Cuffy to Asda because despite the renovations they still refuse to update their card machines to support phone payments over £30

I use my card manually so little now I had to actually think for a moment what my PIN was and almost entered my phone one instead.

I haven't got either a contactless card , or an iPhone . ( Or even a watch to pay with as I've seen done...).

Good old fashioned chip & pin for me. ( But mainly cash.......)

Lovely germ ridden cash...

I always wash my hands well after handling cash.

Have to touch the card machines anyway with not having a contactless card, so the correct ( disinfected) money I hand over doesn't require handling change. I can wash my purse & cash, but can't really stand there wiping down keypads before entering pin number in busy shops.
( And yes, I HAVE disinfected my coins on my purse since this Corona outbreak :D .
Normally paranoid about germs, but absolutely everything is being attacked with bleach nowadays)
