You could complain to Stafford Borough Council's Environmental Health team. They have a duty to investigate noise pollution that could constitute a statutory nuisance. The only problem is, by the time they have investigated it, it will have probably ended.

They have a job to do, it isn't their fault. There isn't a pillow in the world big enough to muffle any noise.
Such a shame tho, I don't see it relieving any traffic once done, just gives a bit extra space for more cars around the town.

I'm presuming you're a shift worker Glam and I can't help but think they should be able to give some time scale for all of this. If nothing else you could be able to make different sleep arrangements with friends/family/something and maybe get some help from the company doing the work … (yeah I know, I'm getting idealistic … :|)

I was a shift worker for most of my working life. I know that if nothing else it makes you aware of how valuable your sleep is. Believe me you have my sympathy. (Nothing worse than feeling tired all the time.)

This pile driving lark, are them concrete post thingys meant to stick up out the ground like they do?
You keep knocking them into the ground til they hit something hard, they act like legs to build the road on. Wonder how deep they've had to go, I know the last house on bettyhatch Lane took a lot more than expected.

Rumour has it that when driving in piles for the Creswell Viaduct that carries the M6, (just a bit upriver from this) they had to drive the piles in so deep, that they hit the underside of some piles being driven in from the Antipodes Island (almost diametrically opposed to us on the planet.)

Of course, to cheer @Glam up, I personally think this is an exaggeration. :heyhey:

Or on the bright side, on part of the M11 past Cambridge they had to give up driving piles and build the road on a "mattress" on the alluvium across the Cam valley. Not sure what the "mattress" was, presumably not the bundles of birch twigs that the 19th century railway builders used in the area. Pity the motorway builders hadn't realised that in the ice age the proto-Thames had run there and cut a channel 250 feet deep now filled with alluvium. They also had problems with embankment collapses on a very slippery Jurassic clay that 18th century canal builders had found the solution to.

I haven't heard any activity in the last few days, has all work on the road temporarily stopped ? Or is the piling finished ?

Last week I used my hour of freedom to go ten yards across the road, to wash, dry and wax my car, thinking that the lack of pollution, movement etc it will be protected for a bit. 100 yards from the scheme its been covered in a layer of dust since 24 hours after i did it!:grr:

This probably should be in the today I saw bit, but here goes.
I've just seen a bloke, in the rather fetching bright orange prison jump suits, that they're all wearing. He was riding round the car park on an even brighter yellow quad bike with matching illuminous yellow tanks on the back.
He looked like he was spraying the car park with sumat.
