Seems both have altered their hours today, both will now be closing at midnight, and reopening at 6am.

Asda is definite, can anyone confirm the Tesco situation ?

Good. I’ve never understood how it can be cost effective and it leaves staff vulnerable with small numbers in such a large store

Tescos to close all stores at 10pm for the duration to allow for cleaning & restocking. -

  • To ensure more people have access to everyday essentials, we are introducing a storewide restriction of only 3 items per customer on every product line, and removing multi-buy promotions.
  • In order to allow Tesco colleagues to focus on stocking shelves, helping to provide the essential groceries you are looking for and to avoid waste, we will close all meat, fish, deli counters and salad bars.
  • To be able to ensure our stores are clean, that we can replenish stock, and allow our colleagues to rest, we will change our trading hours with all stores closing at 10pm.
  • To ensure we are doing everything possible to reduce the risk of infection for both our customers and colleagues, we will be introducing some distancing measures at the checkout and, to make it swifter, invite customers who can, to pay by card.
  • To help free up slots for the more vulnerable, such as our elderly customers and those who are self-isolating, we are encouraging customers who shop online or choose Click+Collect for their grocery home shopping, to prioritise shopping in-store where possible.
  • To ensure our more vulnerable and elderly customers can shop in-store, we will prioritise one hour every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning between 9-10am (except in our Express stores) and ask that you respect this.

Tesco doing things right this morning. Rationing one pack of toilet tissue this morning but having a little common sense as I had to get a second for an elderly neighbour. Tesco have or had stocks of all the stuff that has been in short to zero supply. As well as staff who realise these are testing times.

Lidl was pretty much decimated of most things mid-day today. We also saw people trying to buy the 6 bottle box of wine only to be told they would have to remove two of them.

Plenty of garden tillers and multi-meters available, which was a relief. I bought four of each.

Sons Tesco Superstore in Worcester has been consantly empty for a week or so by the time he's finished work . Seems lots of super hoarders around there.( As soon as the virus in China was mentioned weeks ago the freezers were bare. I'd gone down to wait in for his new fridge freezer to arrive , then we went shopping to stock it up as soon as he got home in the afternoon.....nothing bloody left in the freezer aisles )He thought he'd get some beers in last night for incase he has to self isolate...... booze shelves been emptied ! Luckily I managed to get a few food items and couple of longlife sterilised milk from our Aldi here the other day and took them down whilst he was out at work, with other supplies I'd raided out of my pantry.

Assistant in Aldi said people are going around trollies full of the maximum allowance, back to the car and then back round again several times, each time visiting a different till. She's been pointing it out when she's clocked them back at the tills again and having stuff like loo rolls taken off them.

I don’t understand why. There’s a limit to how much fresh you can buy before it goes bad and a limit to how much can fit in the fridge and freezer! Flogging on black market?

I've only been buying a small amount of fruit and veg lately , rather than my weekly stock up , as it seems to be going off fast . Slung so many mouldy tomatoes , oranges and apples away only a few days after purchasing these past few weeks . So now find myself with an empty fruit bowl and no salad stuff . Contemplating putting a scarf around my face to avoid any Corona germs , and nip quickly into the Co-op tomorrow in the hope of buying a few days worth of fruit & salad stuff . Shouldn't have listened to hubbys "We don't need anymore cheese yet" the last time we shopped as well. He's been greedy with it (like me with the chocolate) . I just knew we wouldn't have enough to last if we need to self isolate...our supply of it won't even last the weekend now. Hopefully the shelves of cheese haven't been raided....
