Coronavirus.

The death toll of Britain today is the same as Italy on March 7th which means we are exactly 2 WEEKS BEHIND THEM.
Will people please take the social distancing thing seriously and stay in, only going out for essentials.

I read of someone yesterday who said he was young and not in the at risk category so it didn’t affect him.

JUST STOP IT.
YOU'RE SPREADING IT.

Nonessential work is still going on. Millions of people who can't work from home are getting up and going to construction sites and factories and mixing with dozens of people daily. As long as that's still happening, all this shrieking about staying home is pointless.

My companies policy is business as usual. I can't work from home. Tomorrow I'll be in the same building with the same people facing the same demands as always.

So can we quit shaming people and think about the disconnect they're dealing with please.

This isn’t about shaming people, it’s about making people wake up to the seriousness of it.
I accept that not everyone can work from home, I get it.
What I don’t get is people mingling and not accepting how their selfishness is affecting other people.

Seriously @ATJ
Do you simply not care?
Do you really think that it’s not important?

I care. I think it's important. I'm also going to work tomorrow to do something that, frankly, isn't that important, but can't be done from home. The country is not in lockdown. Millions of people still need to go to work, eat three meals a day and find a way to unwind. Shaming people for going for a walk when those same people are working in factories with dozens of other people every day is focusing your anger in the wrong place. You want people to take it seriously? Demand lockdown. We're not there yet.

I think people SHOULD go for a walk, in the fresh air, keeping a safe distance from other people.

Whet I don’t think people should be doing is having home parties, having their hair done, shopping for handbags, you know non essential outings.

I agree, there should be lockdown.
Some people might not care, but personally I’m terrified.

I find it hard to believe that it was only a few weeks ago I thought it was a massive over reaction.
How wrong I was.

On the plus side, I've now got a good excuse not to accompany Mrs Mikinton when she goes food shopping. There's simply no point two of us going. We should take it in turns.

Last week, on a walk, we stopped by the shops. I waited outside while she bought some meat from the butcher's. However, we did both go in the Co-Op which we needn't have.

Where my son works, half the office are in one half of the week while the others work from home. Then they switch for the other half of the week. It may not be quite "half the office" as they'll have taken those with caring responsibilities into account.

Haven't they banned walks and jogging in Italy? And as you quoted in another post we're only two weeks behind them.

I still don't believe we have established what a safe distance actually is either.

I have no choice but to go to work, it isn't just those in General Hospitals etc that are at risk.
There is no visiting at Stoke or up the County (or dgh as I still call it).
We have shortened the visiting times to 14.00-16.00, unfortunately there are some relatives that aren't happy about that,
they still want to visit as normal - 14.00-17.00 & 18.00-20.00.

My thought are with @Glam and all the others who have no choice but to go to work.

You are doing a fabulous job in difficult circumstances, it can't be easy.

I think some people (not you) are being obtuse or misconstruing my comments or being deliberately argumentative about staying in and behaving responsibly.
Obviously some people have to go to work.
I was meaning those that are still mixing with others unnecessarily.

Keep up the good work Glam, its people like you that are doing vital work. Big hugs x

Although after the abuse I got today from an NHS worker, who shouted "what the f@ck use is that to us" at me, I'm not even sure what we should do.

I just dread going to work every single day now.

We are trying to help everyone, but we are all in the same boat and need to remember that.

You too @littleme
I've heard the abuse that those in your position are getting. It isn't your fault there's nowt on the shelves.
I went to Lidl after work yesterday, the shop opened at 08.00. There were toilet rolls on the shelves at that point, at 08.01, they'd all gone.
I did manage get some pasta tho, so wasn't a wasted journey x

Does that provoke a higher concentration of visitors in a shorter time..?

That’s unacceptable, no one deserves to be spoken to like that.
You don’t make the rules or decide what is on the shelves, you are frontline and getting the brunt of people’s frustration.

I expect though, emotions are heightened now and stress is making people behave in ways that aren’t perhaps their usual behaviour.
Keep your chin up my lovely.
