China doesn't want your shit any more.

Because you don't separate it.

So shame on you.

Time was they didn't care, but now they do. If they now care, it's probably the time that you should too.

Perhaps after this is all over we can behave like responsible adults again, so we don't have to rely on China for anything ever again?

I’d be fine with the bag if there was actually any logic applied to the system. The space-taking stuff goes in the smaller receptacle, and the stuff that’s generally taking up less space (plastic, etc) or at the very least because it’s made up of smaller items can make more efficient use of the space available goes in the larger receptacle. It’s lunacy.

I've got just about enough space in my kitchen for it and I'm finding it a lot easier to separate 'at source' as it were - but I can see it being a pain if you didn't have the space.

Can’t imagine you’d be wanting to do that when it’s the middle of winter and the bag is soaked through and probably a bit dirty though.

No space here unfortunately, I replaced our built-in freezer with a bin drawer due to lack of floor space so only way I’m fitting a third bin in is if I can locate replacement half size bins to go in the place of the single recycling one... hmm

One imagines that the bags, unless carefully placed on top of the blue bin (and remaining there until collection) and also replaced within a blue bin, rather than beside it, may have ownership claimed by passing canines...

I said 'passing'.

Hadn’t even thought about that but yes...

I dunno, I still pretty much filled my blue bin last collection, was at least 3/4, and put out the blue bag too. But then again, I was having a bit of a clear out of the fridge and stuff, and I think I eat a bit more.

Next week I don't see it being half full, but then again, my green bin was full this week, and normally that's only half full.

I think I'd have been happier having an actual bin though, even if it wasn't a full size one for cardboard and paper. Or they could have gave us a full sized one , and collected it once a month say, these blue bags go everywhere, got stickers coming for mine, so hopefully, the bin men will return it to my bin.

I'm continuing with the old blue-bin-and-hopper system, though any large items of cardboard that would have gone in the bin I keep back (i.e. stick it in the garage for now). Then the day before collection, I empty the cardboard and paper in the hopper into the blue bag and then add the cardboard that I'd put in the garage.

Exactly....

Some people are treating it like an episode of the Krypton Factor....

Thanks for the reminder that bin day is in fact tomorrow and not today :D our cardboard bag is fit to burst whereas our blue bin is only a quarter full (we have two blue bins but will see about returning the second as it’s never likely to be used now). We’ve put additional cardboard out alongside the bag so will see what happens in the morning...

I read again somewhere today on one of the official sites that excess cardboard could be bundled up at the side of the bin ( like Xmas arrangement)
Don't know if that is just until additional bags are available though...

Im struggling to tear the thicker cardboard up with my arthritic hands. Tried cutting up the big box my veg delivery came in with a Stanley knife and nearly sliced my hand off. Hubby had to come and do it for me, but without him there Id be a bit stuck! The box I was trying to cut down was too big to go in my tiny green bin and couldn't stamp on it to make flatter as so solid..

We put a large pile of boxes out alongside the bag and all were collected. In these strange times I imagine the crews may have been told to be as helpful as possible if it means the waste gets collected?

There's no need to put cardboard in the green bin in that case @staffordjas
It's now in tiny pieces in the blue bag as hubby attacked it with the stanley knife. I was planning to store it in my green bin after it's been emptied tomorrow , until next recycling day and aim to see if it was taken from the side of the blue bin. Struggling for space in the shed and garage to keep all these boxes at the moment . (Already stepping over another big veg box from last weeks delivery in the garage , with my spuds in, to get to the freezer.) Would have normally had a walk to the recycling bins by the Co-op in the past, but they've now gone.

Actually suprised how much normal food packaging and paper is being collected in the blue bag. We don't seem to use much packaging as we've been having fresh butchers and farm deliveries since the virus crisis, but it's soon filling the bag up!
