What are we watching on TV?

Yep I'm recording them, although I've seen them before. I'm halfway through the third book, which I hope the Beeb will dramatize, and get Mark Rylance back to play the part.

I have to say when I started watching 'Better Call Saul' I didn't think it could be half as good as 'Breaking Bad' of which it is a spin off. But I've just watched the last of the latest season, and I have to say, it's just as good. It's written and directed by the same people, features lots of characters you would be familiar with from BB, and the cast and writing is just first class.

Although it's a prequel to Breaking Bad, you definitely need to watch BB first if you go for it. You'll understand why if you watch them. Think of it as a back story of the side characters from BB, and both series, although really good story lines, are all about the characters.

I've seen them all [ "Better Call Saul"] up until the latest series, and they really are excellent. I don't have Netflix but know my daughter's password so will be onto it as soon as I can be sure she isn't using it. (She's unemployed due largely to the coronavirus so might be hammering it at the moment.)

I felt she was in on something but he hadn't a clue and was just very lucky.

Just read an article from someone who was a floor manager at the time.
He said that the Tv programme was “based on events” but was changed for drama/tv.

According to him, it was perfectly obvious that they were as guilty as sin, and everyone who made the programme knew it.
The Quiz re wrote the script, apparently.

DEVs. BBC2 … I suppose you would describe it as a 'high tec thriller.' But having just watched the third episode I think it's rather more disturbing than that. Let's say it's just short of science fiction, because the idea of Quantum Computing may well open Pandora's Box.

I'm not going to give any of it away, just in case you want to watch it. Be advised, it's really full of strangely disturbing images, in particular the statue of the young girl that towers above a forest. There's just something wrong with that.

It reminds of a short SciFi story I read many years ago, about a government department working on building a time machine !! But what they found is, that although time travel was impossible, it was possible to 'look' into the past .. i.e. have a fly on the wall view of any event everywhere in the past. This avoids the problem of paradox in time travel, in that you can look, but you can't touch. But you see the danger, you can check on any piece of history, be it fable, legend or (the real danger) religious, and so unhook it if you so desire.

There was a catch of course (any good story needs a catch,) although you could theoretically look anywhere in the past, it all depended on the amount of energy you needed to expend. So … to look back at say the crucifixion of Christ, would involve colossal amounts of energy, so much so, it made the whole idea impractical.
However, this was an exponential requirement that depended to how far back you wanted to look. So, given you have some kind of fusion power station in your back yard, looking back more than a few minutes was quite impossible. But with that kind of power (as any government would be prepared to supply) you could look back at anything anywhere on Earth that took place since a few minutes ago.

You see the beauty of that. No wires, no WiFi, no pre-preparation of any kind. The perfect surveillance. Anywhere in the world. (Time moves at the speed of light, so you can see anything on Earth back to a fraction of a second if you have this kind of technology,) … for anybody who has worked in SIGINT, this is perfection.

I don't know if that's where DEVs is going, but it was the first thing I thought of.
