Prophetic verse from Kipling when you consider what's been going on there for decades now: .....

When you're wounded and left on Afghanistan's plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Jest roll to your rifle and blow out your brains
An' go to your Gawd like a soldier.
Go, go, go like a soldier,
Go, go, go like a soldier,
Go, go, go like a soldier,
So-oldier of the Queen!

In 1377
Sailing ships
Had to wait
40 days
Before they could enter Venice
This quarentena giorni
Became the word quarantine
A 40 day gap
Not 14
Peace and love
Vegetable rights and peas
Mind the Gap

1377 huh ? ... let's try 346 BC !!! :P

Philip, King of Macedonia (and father of Alexander the Great) decided to march south in an effort to put an end to squabbling Greek states. He knocked over a one after the other (clearly Alexander was a chip off the old block) and eventually he crossed into the Peloponnese and approached Sparta.

Now Phillip was aware the Spartans were a bunch of hardcase nutjobs, so he decided to offer them terms of surrender. He sent a messenger saying that if he came into Sparta with his army, he would raze it to the ground, surrender was the better option.

The Spartans sent the messenger back with their own message, just one word: 'If.'

Since Sparta lies in that part of the Peloponnese known as Laconia, this is thought to be the origin of the term 'Laconic statement.' That is, a lot of information in very few words. A blunt, terse statement that says it all.

Phillip had pretty much knocked over all the Greek states, but decided to give Sparta a miss and moved on to easier conquests.

He didn't like the casserole,
And he didn't like my cake.
He said my biscuits were too hard,
Not like his Mother used to make.

I didn't make the coffee right,
He didn't like my stew.
I didn't fold his pants,
The way his Mother used to do.

I pondered for an answer,
I looked for a clue.
Then I turned around,
And smacked the shit out of him.

The way his Mother used to do.

Crow's Theology

Crow realized God loved him -
Otherwise, he would have dropped dead.
So that was proved.
Crow reclined, marvelling, on his heart-beat.

And he realized that God spoke Crow -
Just existing was His revelation.

But what Loved the stones and spoke stone?
They seemed to exist too.
And what spoke that strange silence
After his clamour of caws faded?

And what loved the shot-pellets
That dribbled from those strung-up mummifying crows?
What spoke the silence of lead?

Crow realized there were two Gods -

One of them much bigger than the other
Loving his enemies
And having all the weapons.

AT POLL SALACH

Easter Sunday, 1998
While I was looking for Easter snow on the hills
You showed me, like a concentration of violets
Or a fragment from some future unimagined sky
A single spring gentian shivering at our feet.

He certainly got that right this Easter … notwithstanding all this 'social distancing' shit.
I don't mean to criticise .. I'm well aware of the necessity, but I never believed say four months ago I'd be more sick of hearing a phrase other than 'Brexit.'

Just goes to show: 'Just when I thought I was out …they pull me back in.'
