The brighter side of lockdown

Whilst on today’s walkies it started clouding over and looked like it was going to rain and I hadn’t taken a jacket.

Then I thought in the scale of everything that’s happening at the moment what harm can a bit of water do to me.

Looks like a nice walk mate :)

A nice level stroll from the footpath where Measurements used to be, over the footbridge crossing the river and along the canal. Then back across the fields by the Sow.

Everyone I saw was social distancing and even on the narrow footbridge people were taking it in turns to cross.

I used to walk a lot around this way when I lived down that end of town and just needed a change from walking around Parkside.

We've cycled on some of that when going to milford, it's a nice area and like you say good to roam further.

On that note I need to start running elsewhere again soon. Been using the Isobel trail but foot traffic is most definitely increasing, its hard to judge as I'm running mid morning rather than dawn but there seem to be more people than before the lockdown. Not an issue, they have as much right to be there as me, but I'm having to stop more often than I'd like to ensure safe distancing and it messes up my pace!

I did my first 10k of the year today with minimal pain, and a PB 5k yesterday, so think I'm almost recovered.

Shades of the old Kingston School cross country run. (If you look closely you might see some of my lung tissue still scattered about those fields.)

I posted the route of a 10k I intended walking as soon as the lockdown was over on Facebook (I'll never do it inside an hour), and almost immediately got an offer of meeting up for refreshment. I'm a quite happy that I can walk 3.5 miles inside an hour, so reckon that stepping up to 10k shouldn't be too difficult, but after the lockdown ends.

It takes me nearly 45 minutes to run it, so yeah not walkable in an hour! That looks a nice route, I live in holmcroft so it's nearly 10k to just reach milford.

I might think about returning up the towpath, rather than the main road, though traffic should be down a bit at the moment.

Although a 2m separation may not be possible at all times with people coming the other way, I suppose.

The towpath would certainly be preferable to the main road when the lockdown finishes. I might redraw the route come the time.

For now, we've tended to steer clear of the towpath as it can get quite narrow. About a month ago there was a post on Facebook saying something like if you want to walk on towpaths you'd better be able to walk on water as well. I did think of suggesting they bring in a one-way system where you could only walk from a low numbered bridge to a higher numbered bridge, but I could see fast walkers stacking up behind slowcoaches.

Today has been sunny here, and a day of little odd jobs. I did take advantage of the dependable weather to do my 10km figure-of-eight cycle ride. I did consider doing it in 'reverse', but decided that too much excitement may be detrimental.

I found a few interesting things on the way round.

A child-minding facility in operation, despite the prohibition.

Further round, there was evidence of previous parking arrangements, though no sign of a ticket machine or any wardens.

There also seems to be some illegal snaring activity going on, although they seem to be after feral escapees.

I think that top picture of the canal towpath and bridge gets my vote as pix of the season because it shows Spring bursting out of all the seams. Always been the favourite time of the year for me seeing nature fire up after the winter. :)
