My friend is a ICU nurse. He has had patients die from Covid19 aged 27 and 45 who had no underlying health conditions. The virus isn't bothered about age. It will kill anyone it can.
Listening to someone on TV the other day, it's more to do with general health than age. Someone phoned in who was well into their 70s and ran four miles each day (or whatever) and asked whether the advice given to the over 60s about self isolating really applied to him. The expert after a bit of waffle brought the advice to a swift conclusion by basically saying it didn't and that it was really all about general health. (So maybe we should go by BMI as well as age.)

My views are largely formed by a stat mentioned on the radio when the death count was around 13000 (before deaths in care homes were being counted) when it was said that only 11 of those deaths were to people under the age of 45 with no underlying health issues. 9 men and 2 women.

Think lions and wildebeest.

ETA From a survey of 16749 people with Covid-19 admitted to 166 UK hospitals, the median age was 72 and the interquartile range was 57-82.

But we can afford for all our old, ill or not even ill people to die?
Those are the people you save through shielding very few "fit and healthy" people die, thought to be less than 1% of all the deaths. For these people you minimise the risk of infections by regular hand washing and social distancing. Those who become ill will need to be quarantined to minimize transmission. Doing this is believed to keep reproduction rate below 1. This is something I believe the government will do on one form or another over the coming months. We need to keep things in to prospective this disease is more deadly than flu but is much less deadly than Ebola with a transmission rate much lower than Measles. It's not good but could be so much worse

There's a big get out clause in the official guidance I see, which might make some companies not try so hard with the social distancing.

Enjoying a drop of red.

one thing people seem to of forgotten during this lockdown is that recession kills. recession may not be listed on a death certificate but it still kills. if the recession resultant from the lockdown is worse than -6.7 per cent than the lockdown mission of saving lives will of failed as more life-years will of been lost due to recession than saved from coronavirus. we need to ensure that whatever we do the cure isn't worse than the disease.

Didn't the mortality rates actually drop during recessions such as the Great Depression and the more recent Great Recession?

Now boys and girls, all this seems a bit pointless given all this mayhem is being caused by a thing you can't even begin to see unless you have an electron microscope. (Although that's offset to some extent by the fact there are literally tens upon tens of millions of the f****** things.)

You know that old saying: "Opinions are like arseholes. Everybody has got one."

You should be like me. During this lockdown I've discovered Jesus !!! (He was hiding under the bed, believe me I soon had his arse out the door and bouncing down the road I can tell you.)

You should consider yourself lucky. many don't have a job right now and the longer this lockdown continues the worse it will be. We need to look to the future and keep r0 below 1 in the least damaging way possible and lockdown isn't it. We need to learn to live with this beast and at present this isn't living.
No job???
There are always jobs available...
