The slow crawl out of self distancing

For anyone who doesn't know KFC is back open again on the Hough retail park. There was a sentinel article saying it was delivery only however the drive through was queuing back to the entrance of those units....

The cops had to 'ask' a Costa in Manchester to close the other day, as the queue was blocking the roads around it....

In all seriousness, what can be announced on Sunday that can start on Monday? It isn't going to be shops as less than a day's notice is pointless.

Spike in deaths at Spring Bank Holiday it is.

I'd expect the easing of restrictions to focus around outdoor activities as these are thought to be very low risk.

don't be so sure, people are a lot more aware of the measures to protect themselves and others than they were in early March and we have seen how willing people are to slow transmission.

I’m just so angry right now, I’m positively incandescent with people deciding whether they are at risk or not.

The message currently is STAY AT HOME.

People aren’t staying at home, people are deciding whether they themselves are at risk.

I saw this today in our village.

A person who has a daughter living with him and this daughter is a nurse working front line with Coved 19.

But is this person taking precautions, keeping a distance from others?
No, he’s off visiting his other mate in the village, riding round the village in the car, or standing close together in the garden.
No social distancing whatsoever.

The more people see other people doing it, they think, “oh ok, I’ll do it then”

And this is how it perpetuates.
We’re either in in together or we’re not.

I was rather confused by this, as it seemed contrary to your previous posts, but @Carole may have explained it?

The lack of a comma after "sure" does rather reverse the meaning.

Is Carole's reading correct?

People do seem to think this is about them not getting infected themselves, rather than them not being part of a chain that leads to others getting infected.

Sad, really.

.

Another Example.
We’re doing the stay at home street party for VE Day.
Sit outside your front bit of garden with a picnic.

I think the clue is “STAY AT HOME”

So why say “Can my neighbour bring his friend who lives in the next village”

NO, what bit of stay at home aren’t you getting?

I would imagine any shops allowed to trade would have already been notified via government channels as to what guidelines they would need to follow and set in place ready. The general public dont always get that info first.

Has there been a time when we shouldn't have been aiming to "stay safe"?
Yes, apparently - about the same time that Alexander was 'joshing' about shaking hands.

Before he apparently almost died - what larks!

If we'd actually 'locked down' , like we ended up doing anyway, just two weeks before Alexander was larking about and shaking hands, somewhere in the region of 30,000 people wouldn't now be dead.

But he's a right character, isn't he?

but we only locked down because of earlier mistakes. for me, the 12th march was when the crucial error was made in the UK. that was when they withdrew the contain measures and moved in to delay. if they had kept and ramped up the contain measures (track test trace isolate.) whilst implementing the delay phase many transmission chains could have been broken.

Knowing what we know, that you can be killed by a virus and what you can do to stop being killed by that virus. I am not really looking at the government to relax rules, due, you know, the death thing. So even if they do I like to think I won’t change what I am doing now.

The pint of milk & loaf of bread .........
Handled at source.
Same at distribution centre.
Same at supermarket.
Goes into shopping trolly that has only (at best) had the handle cleaned.
Handed to shop checkout person (lets ignore self scan for this)
No cash if you can, card only.

Online shop ?
Damn near the same except for close proximity to others.

Have seen ..........
At least 6 staff behind the desk mingling in the doctors reception while patient kept at least 6ft away, same goes for chemist and none of those were tested (I asked)
Same for staff behind the doors at the supermarket, those doors where the staff go into and out of the warehouse (no need to ask about being tested)

For sure keeping a distance seems to make sense but that's all it is IMO (not a popular view I know)

It is what it is :|.
I've worked in food production and i could tell you some stories that would put you off mass produced / prepped food for life so no difference there trust me :barf:.
I take the lesser risk by having my groceries delivered , however whatever can be washed/wiped, disinfected is done so before entry to the house.

Try and do my job, a lot of our patients are full on personal care, requiring a minimum of 2 staff, one lady needs 4 for all hands on approaches. There is no safe distancing in Mental Health.

Hi Glam
Do not get me wrong as I can well imagine what you are up against (kind of anyway)
All NHS staff (all & support) should have been tested from day 1 (IMO) and the same goes for those they had to treat/help, falling that then full PPE should have been on hand.

My comments are just aimed at the irony of it all & all the know nothing Big Sir's in charge giving their we know best advice to the workers (Ferguson ?)

Having discovered I needed to buy some half decent wood filler for the front door step I thought a quick trip to b&q would sort it out.... Wrong!

A queue going back around the back end of the car park was in place and I passed one couple driving off in a convertible very happy with their "essential" 5ft plants sticking out of the back of the car....

I don't hold much hope for this nation.....
