What I Did This Weekend - In Pictures!

Just finished putting some 'black stuff' on the porch roof. Not my favourite job I can tell you. All this painting is starting to make me dream about paint brushes and tins. When the lock down finishes who knows I might be asked to do the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel !!! Apparently they had a right cowboy in to do it before.

I fancy doing it in a nice Magnolia ... :heyhey:

The speakers have had their connections established and a trial run was performed, taking the wires off the Chalet's indoor speakers. They performed excellently, the units are coaxial and probably capable of more than my ears can receive now. The ports were worth doing, covering them does reduce the 'body' of the sound. I just need to mount them and run the wiring now.

The speakers have been mounted in their intended location, at last, though the connections still have to be established.

I considered hanging them from the roof sheets, but was concerned that some 'drumming' might occur, so they are hung from wooden beams resting on the large support beams.

I removed the desiccated foliage from the daffodils - I did it a lot earlier last year, for logistical reasons - they've had a bit longer to withdraw energy into the bulbs this time.

Half a day to dry a bit more, then it was shredded and scattered, to be mixed in a some point soon.

The speakers are functional - and the floodlight is plumbed in properly now.

The neighbourhood is being treated to the sounds of steam trains...

The old fly-lead that was powering the floodlight can now be transferred to the pressure-washer, to replace the too-short lead that has annoyed me for years.

That looks a bit like the 'Iron Throne' to the right of the door .... :heyhey:
There was (is?) a plan to grow something suitable up that and fit this at the bottom, but it is not very high up on the agenda.

It's a bit late, but not really, so where are they?

Oh,they weren't really there, they were just audio recordings.

It should be noted that the date for Track 3 is wrong and should probably be 1959. It is notable, also, how much more prevalent errors have become on CD packaging than they ever were on LPs.

Also notable was just how much more mechanically sound the Zimbabwean loco gave the impression of being, compared to the rather clanky and leaky BR ones.

Today was clearly going to be reliably drizzly here, so I decided to do the pressure washer lead extension, despite it being the second day of our hosepipe ban...

Having dismantled it before, then giving up when confronted by the designer's obstructions, I got in fairly quickly this time, and recorded the connections before removing the cable and the problem grommet that it was firmly attached to. I needed to remove the grommet from the old cable, as I would need it when the replacement cable was finally fitted.

DSCN8138.JPG

Not having an x-ray facility, an exploratory incision was made and the cause of the non'removable cable was found to be this three-cornered band, crimped onto the cable, before the grommet was moulded around it - the crimped band was located about where the injection point can be seen, with my incision running through it.

The ring was removed, opened up and then re-crimped onto the new cable, before the grommet was refitted and the connections remade.

The completed job. A much better arrangement with far less likelihood of the extension socket getting soaked when using the machine - and a lot less aggro when moving everything along a bit.

A while ago, I managed to knock Ecker's old camera onto a carpeted floor. This resulted in the zoom range of the 18-55mm lens becoming restricted, although everything else seemed OK. I finally got around to having a look at it this morning, as it was a bit too showery to do much else outside.

Mr Nikon has graciously provided really excellent instructions on how to get in successfully - http://allphotolenses.com/public/files/pdfs/62b36c4e422eb327a4b716cc961ab6c0.pdf - without it, I would have spent a long time trying to get past what turned out to just be a bit of sticky tape...

It seems that I had managed to break off the mount of the Zoom Coupling Key from the Zoom Ring.

It was fairly clear where it should be, so I've Araldited it back in place.

All seems to be working OK now, except that the Zoom Ring doesn't quite reach the 55mm setting - I might have another look one day...

I did the same with my 18-55mm. OH fixed it but then managed to rip a ribbon cable when reassembling it. We were going on holiday a week later so I ordered an 18-200 mm whilst waiting 2 months for the cable to come. I've hardly used my camera since.

I remembered that happening - and bore it in mind all the way through the procedure...

I've got back into the habit of using the old S4 Coolpix in the meantime.

I've got a job coming for the weekend, I only hope I don't chicken out. This small utility room holds a fridge, washing machine and small workshop. I pine panelled it it a few years ago, then ripped out the old Calor gas boiler and replaced it with an all electric boiler which allowed me to adjust the way the hot water heating worked.
But in the years since junk has accumulated to the point where short of opening the fridge and washing machine door, nothing can be done in it. So ... I'm going to clear it all out and organise, ... get it ship shape so to speak. I'll have to put some beers in the fridge so I can indulge in planning and forethought.
