What does everyone think about the changes that are coming on 4th July?

Personally I'm dreading it, people already seem to be treating everything as if it were normal. (Bare in mind I work in a job where its very hard to distance from people, and have worked throughout the lock down so I've seen many many changes).

I just still don't feel safe. I think people are thinking it's all over, but I'm still seeing & hearing about daily cases.

With most places opening on the 4th July and distancing being lowered to 1 metre, I'm really worried about the concequences...

Is it just me?
Not just you, I'm dreading it as well. Especially hearing of spikes in places.

On a Portugal travel forum, there are UK idiots saying they aren't going to quarantine / self isolate if told to or if they have symptoms , saying it's all a load of nonsense people worrying about it as most people only get it mild . They are going to go abroad on holiday and do what they normally do no matter what. Rather scary there are so many people out there like that who don't give a toss about others. :ohno:

I've only started going out shopping for food the last couple of weeks, and even then it's at quiter times of the day and only to the butchers, farm shop and today the local Co-op for a couple of needed items (been getting Tesco click & Collect and still will do as long as I can get slots)

My first visit to the butchers felt fairly safe, and the farm shop had a big screen in front of the counter with bacterial gel clearly visible at the door...

Last friday when I went expecting the same again, the butchers 'In' & 'Out' signs had been removed and people walking around the shop passing rather too close.
Then on to the farm shop which only had me in as a customer at the time. The hand gel was hiding behind a machine near the door. Delivery people were coming in and out several times not bothering about distancing, and the previous screens around the counter to pay had been removed completely! :o

In the Co-op today, it was almost empty so I entered with confidence expecting the few in there to be really aware of distancing. But customers and staff were acting as though Covid has never happened.

Can't see pub customers sitting still at their own allocated tables, and not going across the pub to chat with their mates. Especially after a few bevvies. It will be quite a time before we go to a pub again, despite missing the odd night out.

I've not been to many places apart from where I work in the last 14 weeks, on Sunday 4 seperate customers told me they had been to Asda but had left as there was no social distancing at all, no queues on the door or inside,, I have no idea though as I've not been there.

People have become to complacent very quickly, I'm alright Jack, pull up the ladder....

I've decided to self isolate from Facebook, way too many people spreading lies on there about what's going on. Apparently it's all made up, it's no worse than the flu and the death rate is normal!
I have discovered that some Americans won't wear a face-covering because that would invalidate their "concealed carry" rights.

People will have learned a lot (or not?) about the "societies" that they live in through all this.

Had a conversation with one of your colleagues yesterday, we both come to the same conclusion, that retail workers have been largely overlooked when it comes to praise.
Yes, those of us in the NHS have had to be careful, even if we work in Mental Health and get told regularly that we aren't a 'proper hospital'. Had 1 nurse go off with the coronavirus, they're back at work now and all appears ok.
I do feel for all of you, you're on the frontline as much as us, yet are seriously ignored.

Most retail workers in supermarkets have received either a weeks wages as a bonus , a % increase in hourly pay , some have received a £150 voucher to spend in their store .
Almost all supermarket companies have done this. regarding the PPE , i have noticed that some chains had been lacking in that area though.

Almost every government televised briefing has mentioned and thanked everyone involved in the crisis including retail workers and the care sector too.

i do agree that the shortage of PPE for those in the care sector was seriously ignored and questions need to be asked about that also .

Very sad for those shielding in Leicester who’d hoped they would see some shielding restrictions lifted. They’re now facing an extension, a harsh reminder of their vulnerability and the lack of care some individuals have for others safety.

If anybody thinks that being "mentioned and thanked" is a precursor to any significant change in circumstances, they are going to be quite disappointed.

When you generate a society where people feel comfortable in believing that other people's problems are nothing for them to bother about, this will just continue - and escalate.

Didn't you suggest that retail workers recieved bonuses to make it okay?

Money doesn't make up for death.

no i didnt , i was stating they received thanks by payment from the companies involved.
if those food chains recompense the staff by cash it is their choice.
also , the government has been giving thanks to all on every coronavirus briefing

if you can find any sentence in my post that says i'm ok with it then i would agree with your comment , but i didnt.

it would be down to the employee to decide if it was ok or not.

i suggested nothing.

Spot on.

They've had extra money so frankly they can fcuk off if they catch something and die. Same with the bloody NHS staff. I mean, FFS they actually get paid to put themselves in harm's way. It's their job and still they whinge.

They need to get a grip.

I'm assuming there's a lot of sarcasm in there!
