It's a bit like the Butterknife cafe. Goodness knows how many cafes have failed in that location before, but it's got to be worth opening up a new cafe there, surely.

The thing with the Butterknife cafe I often though was it's the first cafe I pass from my house into town on my way to the train station - usually before I'd have any coffee, but at 7:30am it wasn't open, even though there were plenty of other people around the place too (and a number of people asked me if there was anywhere they could get breakfast around that time). If it did take away coffees efficiently I probably would have have left my house 5 mins earlier and grabbed a coffee from it on my way to the train. Equally even when I had the boy with me and it never seemed enough of a treat compared to say 'The little Dessert Shop' was after work. I'm sure it could have found something that worked, maybe the next people who give it a go will find a way forward that works...

When that side of the college closed the student footfall dropped massively, and I think it's a good 2 years for the new building to be ready?

Butterknife gave the feeling of a dessert and cake shop to me, but their dessert offerings were incredibly basic to be honest.

I think that was the aspiration - but poorly executed in the face of very accomplished competition.

Au the much heralded food court. Clearly they don't have a big name food outlet given the announcement of "pop up food retailers".

I hope they realise that the point of a food court is giving people options and not just having one or two at a push...
Sounds like the "food court" will actually just be a Druckers typertype outfit in the same area, a bit disappointed tbh.

The old Waterstones should have never closed, but might become a spar, just guessing here, but that's the only one springing to mind, the old jjb will probably be the charity shop, the hair dressers will probably take the units nearest the market, that only leaves about one spare unit.

Ah, the old 'never mind the quality, feel the width' approach.

I think that the Guild Hall *used* to be a decent shopping mall until the 'Credit Crunch' crash*. Since then it has been 'any old shit as long as we get a rent' type of mall.

*should more correctly be known as the 'Bail out the Wankers' crash, oops sorry Bankers.

I didn't even know that the old gym had closed.

I-Motion was still open until the lockdown. It was always due to change hands but this pandemic has obviously caused plans to be delayed. Plus even when it is open I'm not sure I fancy going...
