Does anyone know of a tv that will allows you to connect your play station and your DVD and get sky and connect a video recorder too and will let you cast things from your tablet too.
OR
Do we have to buy gadgets to set all that up on one tv.
thanks

It all depends on the connections. Most now are HDMI, so you need one with lots of HDMI sockets* but the video will usually want a SCART or a phono style input (3 round cables - Yellow, white and red). Casting from the tablet is done via something else usually, like a chromecast plugged into a HDMI socket.

Personally I'm not a fan of getting everything in one, unless the price is similar to not doing so. Things change fast and TVs are replaced less frequently, what is top of the range now may feel slow in 3 years. What size TV and what budget? I'll take a look, do you use any online services or just sky?.

*You can get external switches to increase these

Thanks J, I'm not sure of size yet as it's goin into the wardrobe behind a sliding door and I have to move a shelf to accommodate. At the moment she has wires every where and I'm concerned it's not safe but she says she need ALL of them and wants ALL of those things connected.

This is the next stage of the declutter and revamp - we have a huge new wardrobe on the one wall with sliding mirror doors - shelving units on the other wall and the wall with the tv and stuff is going to have sliding doors. Her bed is in the middle so she's happy that everything is around her. it's been had work with her hoarding obsession. Oh and I forgot to mention we have teddy's handing in a net from the ceiling. She's such a love and I can't really say your not having teddies - your nearly 40 years old

Once you know the dimensions of the space the TV can go in I can take a look, also bear in mind it can be wall mounted. As for all the things she needs plugged in, there may have to be compromises. Get her to prioritise each one, so that if all can't be used I can look for the best combination of connections for her.

Have you found a decent HDMI switch tek? We only have 2 ports so got a switch for the TV, fire TV and Chromecast but it lasted about a month before it stopped working.

I'm afraid my TV is used so infrequently that I've never needed one, that and I use a single box for almost everything (roku - can run netflix/prime/nowtv/BBC etc.)

Don’t buy TVs for their smarts is my main recommendation. They’re horrendously underspecced when it comes to Android TVs (ours runs like mud now), and most other smart software is hot garbage.

For smarts buy a Roku or Apple TV. An Xbox One works too and has most apps but if you use Plex (some here do and I’m somewhat generalising my answer) the Xbox Plex app is a mess.

HDMI Switches... most are fine if they have good ratings on Amazon and you can always send it back if it’s faulty, a powered one with an IR receiver would be the ideal. If you want to future proof it look for 4K 60Hz switches. 1 output and as many inputs as you need.

TCLs are good TVs if you want something no fuss, fairly cheap too but are often rated highly for their picture quality. These days you can get a 42” 4K for £350-odd on Amazon. Best bit about them though is if you decline the terms and conditions it just outright disables the smart bloat.

I won’t delve into audio equipment just yet...

Completely agree on the smart TVs, I'd always go for a separate box unless the set costs no more and still fulfils all the other requirements for inputs etc. Audio equipment won't be an issue in this instance as the user is deaf.

Some of the Sony TVs still have scart connections for the videos recorders. You should be able to cast your phone and tablet with the smart functions. PlayStation will work with the hdmi connections.

This is not a recommendation, as I've never used this TV or this supplier, but this sort of thing is ideal. It has 3 HDMI and an AV input, has built in chromecast (to cast to the TV) and runs on android so guessing you can have lots of apps etc. I am also assuming that you can avoid the android side altogether if needed and run it just as a TV, if it ages badly.

Even without scart, an adapter will happily convert it to RCA (Red, white, yellow) which you really want to use anyway as scart is an abomination made by Satan himself
