I've considered a trailer tent, being realistic, i'm not getting any younger, will I want to lug a heavy tent about in say 5 years? I'll be 61 then.
If I get a trailer tent, I can keep it at my sisters farm and transport it from there.

My motor home from about 10 years ago. Slept in the back of that all over the place. A bit cramped, but a good view of Snowdon out of the back window. (And you get used to the smell ... :P )

In 1979 , when I first met hubby we could only afford a week in a Torquay hotel. So spent a week in Newquay and Weston Super Mare on the way back living in my Vauxhall Viva and a quick strip wash in public loos. Only got moved on once early one morning from a Newquay carpark by a traffic warden  That would be my worst nightmare nowadays!

@Carole was your motorhome out and about this lunchtime? Saw a nice one on the Cannock Road turning into a lane towards Bednall and thought of you :)

That’s one place where you get plenty of camper vans. They didn’t seem to have formal sites, people just rocked-up and parked by the beach. That must feel very adventurous, helped, I’m sure, by the whisky!

Are you going next year?

Yes definitely! Are you?

Scotland have the right to roam so you often find campers abandon style at the beach!

That wasn’t us, but it might possibly have been going to the Caravan and Motorhome Park situated at Bednall Head.
Thanks @Carole I didn't even know that place existed ! (Shows how observant I am driving around the area. Looking for it on Streetview I hadn't even noticed the bus stop and shelter on the A34 by Common lane either as I've driven past millions of times. )

So, having bought it and tried it out, we thought that we might go to Devon or Cornwall or Dorset or Norfolk or somewhere by the sea.

We realised that us buying our Motorhome coincided with everyone else buying one, everybody else wanting to vacation in this country.
And it’s August.
Totally bad timing.

Not made any easier because I have certain stipulations.

If Dorset, I highly recommend Higher Moor Farm.

If Dor

If Dorset, I highly recommend Higher Moor Farm.

I’ve just looked that up and although it looks pleasant enough it doesn’t have the facilities that we’d like.

We require somewhere that has super pitches, all weather hard standing (with grass to the side) electric hook up, personal water supply, personal ground level inlet for grey water drainage.

I’m also looking for somewhere within walking distance to the coast, although I’m realistic enough to accept that I’m probably not going to find that at this short notice.

I’m finding it incredibly time consuming going through all the sites to see what they’ve got only to find on some of them you can’t check for availability online, you have to e mail them.
On others you have to continually put your details in, (Motorhome, the measurements of it, how many adults, taking a dog etc) only to find there is no availability. Over and over again I did that yesterday.

Is there a site similar to Trivago but for campsites where you put your dates in and the area and everything available comes up?
A site where you enter your details once not over and over again?

Have you tried pitchup?
Yes I’ve tried it, but I can’t get on with it.

If I put in Norfolk, then Motorhome and the dates, it brings up for the first three, Hampshire, Cornwall and Nottingham.

Also, in the search I click on “fully serviced pitch” and it brings up grass non serviced pitches, so it’s not showing me what I’m looking for.

What @Lucy said @Carole

I use Pitchup regularly and you can use filters to drill down to the info you want. Make an initial search, unit type, dates and area. Then on the results filter using your criteria.

That may be beacuse there's very few with all the amenities you want unfortunately.

Well I looked at the map view instead of the list view and there was one in Hunstanton but for some reason it was showing on page 3 of the search instead of page one. Don’t understand why it would show other areas first?

The fully serviced pitches are quite popular which is why we’re struggling to find one at short notice.

However, while some people might consider us to be a bit fussy, I personally don’t want to compromise on what we want when on holiday.
For example I’d rather not go away on holiday at all if I had to stay in a three star hotel, we choose 4 or 5 star hotels.
So it’s the same for the motor home. Don’t see the point of leaving behind a nice house and garden to stay somewhere where I’m not going to have the amenities that I need to be comfortable.
So if we can’t find a fully serviced pitch on a beautiful site then we won’t go this time, we’ll wait a bit and go later in the season.

I have a feeling they show the ones that you can book via their site first, but am not positive.

You are entitled to want whatever comforts you'd like - I'm not suggesting otherwise. It just limits the options, that's all.

To be fair, the site is better when I search for Devon or Cornwall.
For some reason it just didn’t like searching for Norfolk.

To search for sites in Norfolk, you need to type in the information with six fingers.

Are you already planning to make a holiday of the (future) trip to Spain and back?
