I felt quite emotional today reading that BA are scrapping their entire fleet of Jumbo Jets.
The 747 was the aircraft that I worked on, (later I also worked on 777’s) but the 747 remained my favourite.

We usually take at least one long haul holiday a year, sometimes more and I loved getting on that plane.

After over 30 years of first getting on one, and 11 years after leaving the company I still have a special fondness for them.

How quiet is town now? even with restrictions being lifted, can see a lot of places shutting

Final nail in the coffin for any independant stores?

Restrictions don't make it safe to get out and about unfortunately.

There's been about 2 positive cases all week confirmed.....

570 out of nearly 68,500 population in total (that's from 2011 so i guess 75k now?)

Imagine if it was something actually very deadly, we'd be housebound for years.

I'm not worried anymore, what's the point in living with fear? especially with the stats currently, live your life...

At this rate there will be nothing to go back to, nowhere to go to enjoy yourself, nowhere to shop etc etc

Coronavirus won't go away anytime soon considering how bad other places have it in the world, and can come here.. only takes 1 person to start it all again, so what's the point even if we wiped it out mostly here? not meant to live for years?

I fully see your point and the Mrs is in retail and you are spot on.

But.

How many people have had a test though? And if my dad got it it would kill him, so I'll be careful for now thanks.

We have it worse than most, they are more worried about us taking it there, although last count I saw they had identified over 1300 cases of an infected person entering the UK from abroad. Obviously we only identified them because they then spread the virus about, not like we had a quarantine or even testing procedure in place.

I think of it like this, AIDS used to have a fairly high infection rate in the UK compared to what it is now. People learnt to understand the risks, changed their behaviour patterns, and the infection rate dropped. It hasn't gone away completely because not everyone is careful, but that doesn't mean I'd go bareback with a one night stand.

That's a good way of putting it. I actually went to a pub last night and it wasn't as bad as I expected, but still I saw someone kick off when they were asked to step away from the bar. I won't be going at the weekend for a while though.

Retail is a tricky situation. We've become a very consumerist society; 30 years ago that wasn't the case. You could argue that toning that down a bit would make a massive difference for climate change. I don't need to go to Primark every week to buy another item of clothing.

... This...

Yes that's it, only quote part of the post to make you look like a smart cookie, bit out of context

And @ lucy that's fair enough. but anyone without any of those worries put a mask on if that makes you feel better and don't be afraid to leave your house...

Pretty sure flu kills more people also, better not leave the house at all in the winter.

All my retail friends have not had it, which is a suprise because if you listen to the news, and some of you lot you'd think they'd all of died with it.

Oh and that's with idiot customers too, btw... with no masks and not respecting the 2m rule...

And that was at it's peak..... Yes I get it can be dangerous especially to a certain range of people, but really everyone turning into hermits at the moment is a bit drastic considering the figures currently. like my previous post are you going to stay in for a few years? because that's how long it'll take to go completely yes will be a vaccine at some point, but good luck getting it quickly!

Yes they may have measures at airports to detect people with a high tempature etc, but nothing is ever 100% could still come in, even if it was wiped out in this country, or at a even lower level than it is currently

And yes the cases have been bad here, but the true figures in india, russia, brazil and a few other places is most lieky a lot more than here, not to mention the USA (obviously per population matters too)

Might not sound like I care but obviously I do care about it, i'm still only going pubs in the day if I get chance as it's quiet and not many people at all (if it's not the weekend) and a few i've been to are very health and safety first, which is brilliant to see.

I'm quite enjoying having a life that's less stressful - don't have to conform to whatever societal norms are nowadays.

I know 2 colleagues that have lost parents, and someone my age who is having major lung issues 16 weeks after having it. Just because you know people that haven't had it doesn't mean it doesn't affect other people.

I also prefer to read the science and make my decision that way, which I have done.

"Public Health England estimates that on average 17,000 people have died from the flu in England annually between 2014/15 and 2018/19. However, the yearly deaths vary widely from a high of 28,330 in 2014/15 to a low of 1,692 in 2018/19. Public Health England does not publish a mortality rate for the flu."

This was from the 11th of March - https://fullfact.org/health/coronavirus-compare-influenza/

If you can let us know which pubs you frequent I'll make a point of swerving them.

No offence meant but it's idiots with flippant attitudes that are going to perpetuate this pandamic.

Wake up please, FFS!!!

flu mainly is in winter period doesn't last all year round, coronavirus does. not to mention the flu jab helps, there's nothing for coronavirus yet the current figures are a lot less... i'm not talking about at it's peak i'm talking about NOW

And why hooper? for stating my opinion? I stick to the distance rules and wear a mask, even in pubs until I have a bit of my drink, I even wash my hands!

Please never leave your house and stay in fear because 2-3 people probably have it right now in stafford, maybe waiting for you outside your house waiting to pounce ya'know?

Probably more chance of being hit by a car/bus/bike/falling bricks ffs

Follow the advice don't be a idiot and you'll be fine if you want to be extra safe like me, I wouldn't risk going out at night yet in pubs.. ;)

Why cause more anxiety, why stress about it? you're only going to make yourselves more ill, do what you can to make sure you are safe as you can, and you'll be fine if you're healthy really shouldn't be letting it take over your life currently,

Because of certain people, people that suffer from bad anxiety won't leave the house now out of fear, if I was reading some of these posts i'd be the same, it would make you more ill especially if you have social-anxiety

Enjoy the rest of the day anyway! I see here things just get took out of context and there's no point carrying on the discussion with narrow-minded brainwashed people, it'll be good when everything closes and people still refuse to leave the house in a year or so, very healthy

We probably only had 2-3 people that had the virus back in Feb/March in Stafford at that time and look what happened then!!!!

You are more than welcome to state your opinion and I fully understand your point about living your life but I would like to live my full life in reasonably good health.

You crack on mate and hopefully none of your family or friends will contract the virus.

The queue outside the Butler’s Bell just now. No chance of social distancing to get down the street.

Why don’t Spoons make them queue parallel to the pub?
