Eat Out To Help Out

Husband and I haven’t had a takeaway or eaten out since March.
Not one.
Yes that’s a lot of home cooked lunches and dinners.

We’ve now decided that perhaps, we might like to support some local venues to help them get back on track.

I’ve googled the “Eat Out to Help Out” thing where you get £10 off.
I thought that the link might be of use to someone else who might be venturing out for a bite to eat.

You can put in your own postcode to get venues nearer to you.... I’ve just put in a random town centre postcode.

Beware though, don’t just turn up....some venues are only giving the £10 off on certain nights.

I’m personally only happy to eat where I can go outside or venues where tables have been removed to ensure social distancing.

Edited to say, I see that Screwfix is on the list.
Didn’t know they did food.

I think it's 'up to' £10.00 off per person, and on Mon, Tues & Wednesday only...

It is and only 3rd to 31st August.

The gov.uk site says you don't need a voucher so I don't know if the establishments are just reducing their prices or if you have to ask?

I'll try to find out later when I'm in town.

They will reduce your prices, and yes eat in only and Mon-wed. This will include mcdonald's and KFC, so the government drive to fight obesity is working as well as most of their schemes :(

Yes - I read somewhere that a cheeseburger will be 50p!

Loose weight to save the NHS - but gorge on cheap burgers first??

If your food and drink (not including alcohol) is £15 then you'll pay £7.50 and they will claim £7.50 back from the government. If your meal costs £25 then you'll pay £15.

My social conciense is really concerned about this. If I do make use of it (the Fox is doing it so I could sit outside there) I think I need to donate to the Trussell Trust or someone similar. I can afford to pay full price, a lot of people can't afford to eat out.

Ah but you're forgetting about all of the healthy activities, social behaviours and respect for each other that we all did during lockdown that will stand us all in good stead going forward.

Oh hang on, the pubs open and Maccy D's is cheaper than chips, let's all meet up in the pub then pile down to Maccy's afterwards.

That’s an excellent idea, we also can afford to pay full price so we shall do something similar.

You mean the fox near Newport? Never eaten there, in fact only ever visited once for a cycle.

Some friends of mine ventured out to eat the other day and they were watching how the place was cleaned.

The people on the next table left and they waiter came and sanitised the table, put a fresh paper menu down, wiped down the back of the chair, the seat of the chair and the arm of the chair.
But, as they pointed out, what is the first thing you do when you sit down?
You reach underneath the seat and pull the chair to the table. THAT part of the chair is usually not being sanitised.

So if anyone is being extra careful it might be worth taking your own wipes to quickly wipe that bit yourself or alternatively give your hands a good dose of liquid sanitiser once you’ve pulled yourself up.

I've pointed out the chair sanitising issue to staff in some of the establishments I have frequented since lockdown and I believe staff are genuinely not aware.

Most have actually thanked me for bringing it to their attention.

I also carry a sandwich bag or similar of anti bacterial wipes and a small bottle of hand sanitiser just in case.

Remember to put the correct number of people in your party as well if doing it on the self order apps and screens. As son has pointed out, how their system has been set up they can claim back up to £10 per person deductions from the government. But if the customer doing the self ordering makes a mistake and types in that there is 1 person , and orders for all the party , in sons place the whole bill is automatically halved on the customers bill, and if it goes over the £10 the restaurant loses out the extra deductions and can't claim that back .

Sounds like they need to upgrade the app tbh.

Looks like it's working. The Wildwood has been quite empty when we've been this past week. We've got a table booked for 6pm , but hubby just rang to see if any chance we could bring it forwards to 5pm and no can do as they are fully booked . Looks like this scheme is doing them good :)
