Does anyone have any recommendations for lovely campsites near Formby, walking distance to the beach?

We’ve never been but we’ve heard good things about it from a few people so we thought we’d pop over for a few nights.
I can’t find anything online so wondering if there are any hidden gems out there.

The campsite must have fully serviced pitches.
Remember, the squirrels drive slowly, so you need to, as well.

If you can remember to take a felt pen - that sign needs a steering wheel added.

There's nothing in Formby, that I know of. There is a holiday caravan park on the dunes but you couldn't bring your own camper as far as I'm aware.

Just up the road, in Southport there are a few camp sites. I'm told the best one is

https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/club-...calsearch&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=gmb

but whether it meets your requirements is another matter. Southport is a 50 min walk along the beech from Formby.

Formby Point Caravan site I have stopped at a few times. It has about 6 spaces for tourers etc. I love it, not much around it and right on the beach. Its not for everyone, due to it not being near a town centre.

Southport Caravan Club site, again stayed at a few times, last weekend I was there. Nice place, good site, situated close to Southport. Right next to the beach.

Thanks @PeterD

The Southport one is the one that @proactive recommended but they don’t do fully serviced pitches.

I’ve just tried to find Formby point Caravan Park, the website doesn’t appear to be working. I can’t click on anything so I don’t know whether that does fully serviced pitches either.

No serviced pitches Carole. To call them pitches is a very loose description. Knowing the criteria you mentioned a while back, neither are a good fit for you. Away from the north west I know these Caravan Club sites have serviced pitches, Burrs Country Park in Bury, Buxton and Broadway in the cotswolds. I recommend the latter. I know this doesn’t help you out in the short term. Sorry.

Nothing happens when I click on anything so all I can see is that page. I can’t see photos or information about pitches or actually anything at all.

Thanks @peter. Yes we’re quite particular about what we want and because of that we are limiting our choice, I accept that.

The fully serviced pitches get booked up quite quickly so we’re now looking at where we might want to go and booking up for next year. There are some beautiful places and gorgeous sites. When we bought the van we thought we’d be able to go at a moment’s notice but we’ve found that not to be the case. We couldn’t get in this weekend anywhere, or for that matter next weekend either (within an hour and a half drive).

Not to offend the lovely people of Formby but in my opinion it's a bit of a dump!

It's my nearest beach and I've only been twice in the six years I've lived here!

You'll struggle to find 'high end' pitches as it's not a particularly 'high end' type of place!

Hopefully you'll find something nice!

We only wanted to go for a few nights to have a look. The dog loves sand dunes!

I also thought that there was a lovely National Trust area near the beach that was worth visiting?

I have a friend who lives there or it may be Southport, they would whole heartedly agree with you lol.

To describe Formby as a dump is a bit much, unless you consider Stafford to be a dump, as it is essentially a smaller version of Stafford in its town centre appeal.

It's not a seaside town but rather a smallish town that happens to be by the sea and has a nice beach, sand dunes and red squirrels.

Formby is not high end, except that there is a hell of a lot of money around here, hence plenty of choice when it comes to decent eateries. It brings in a lot of trade from the more upmarket parts of Liverpool.

For us it's fine as an easy to reach weekend holiday home with a beach and woods literally the other side of the back gate. It's handy for the wife's shop and handy for Anfield.

My ideal UK holiday home would be New Quay, Wales. It's beautiful there but you can't just pop there for a weekend unless you want to do a lot of driving (even though there are great drivers roads) or just nip across to see the world's greatest football team.

Obviously the beach is the eye of the beholder! Each to their own!

I don't know sorry - there are lots of sand dunes!

I just found it very dirty and overcrowded when I went

We found similar when my parents had a motorhome, and that was before all foreign holidays were cancelled! (although back then you didn't fly away every year). It's amazing how quick you got used to not having power other than 12v though if it was between that and staying home. Its even easier nowadays as so much can run from USB, my van in Wales just has solar and I spend a week at a time there happily.

It's not just the electric, we do have solar power.
The fully serviced pitches have electric hook up, personal water hook up, and a drain for grey water disposal.
