Councillor Gillian Pardesi has either never been into the town centre on a Saturday or fancies getting her name in the paper or has no bloody idea whatsoever.

Or all three.

And what the hell is the Community Wellbeing Scrutiny Committee and who is on it?
One has to suspect that Councillor Pert may not be a regular cyclist...

"There is significant investment by the county council in cycling, which is why we want to see people ditching the motor car and using cycle ways, public transport and legs. It’s right we should have some cycle ways – that way it’s safer and we’re not mixing pedestrians with cyclists."

You could, perhaps, argue that the rather futile cycle lanes up each side of Lichfield Road, over the railway bridge, where you would be cycling if the white lines weren't there. are not "mixing cyclists with pedestrians", due to the kerb - but, other than that, I'm stuck to think of another in Stafford.

So to recap...

Stafford Borough Council is set to renew its existing Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) in December...

And "the existing town centre PSPOs, which aim to prevent nuisance behaviour in designated areas, already restrict alcohol consumption in the street".

But the intention is to extend them, in "new measures", to include "a ban on cycling, roller skating, skateboarding and scooters in designated areas".

Which presumably, in a continuation of the aim to prevent nuisance behaviour, means now that "cycling, roller skating and scooters", is unequivocally and in all circumstances 'nuisance behaviour'.

In designated areas.

At the same time that e-scooter trials begin.

In those designated areas.

Do you remember when people talked about 'joined-up' Government? It almost seemed possible for one beautiful decade.
