Isn't people skipping the queue what makes the nhs waiting lists so long?

Yes and no, the private wards do make money for the hospitals, but they’re only necessary because the beast has been starved for the last decade or so.

I would generally opt to go fully private (ie Rowley Hall or non-hospital clinic, etc) to avoid getting in the way of the NHS personally.

I’d rather it not be needed at all, but for a grand or two a year it means my (relatively small) team don’t need to wait 12 weeks just to see a physio, etc. If a certain mixture of folk are off, projects can grind to a halt as there’s very little talent overlap with us.

I’d be lying if I said I would absolutely not take it (for the right price) if the NHS ran perfectly, but the starvation of the NHS has definitely forced my hand a little. And of course I’m not trying to insinuate there that is nothing morally problematic with taking up private healthcare, but you do have to be a touch selfish (and sociopathic...) to run a business.

The point was that

without the NHS you cannot have BUPA

Never said otherwise, the NHS needs to survive and what they’re doing to it is an attack on one of the foundations of the country.

On an unrelated note, I’m now on Worktop Order #5. After two damaged worktops from IKEA I went to Magnet, where I’ve just taken (and turned away) order of my second Magnet worktop with a chunk of laminate missing on the front of it

Beyond a joke really, I asked them to check it before sending it out too. Gotta wait another week now

Finally got the flu jab today. After several unsuccessful attempts at the gp Mrs EM asked at Asda yesterday, 2 appointments made for today. Wonderful, efficient, friendly service. We won’t bother with the go for jabs etc in future
P. S. They were free NHS injections, they’ve got plenty at Asda.

Holmcroft Surgery have now written to inform me "Your Flu Vaccination is now due" although I've not had one for several years.
I might make an appointment.

Enjoying a drop of red.

That might or might not be a good idea, depending on what conspiracy theory you subscribe to.

After our 2 local pharmacies telling me their allocated doses of +65 yrs jab had gone and very doubtful they would get more, GP Message saying they're awaiting another delivery (but final delivery & once that's gone it's gone ...)
Boots saying to ring back next week as weren't taking any more appointments at that time....

I managed to get one at Stafford Tesco Pharmacy last Monday.
Rang the week before to be told they had over 65's in stock , but had to book online answering details of meds & conditions ( googling Tesco Pharmacy Flu Jab)
Nabbed the only slot on their system at the time for the Stafford store.
Lovely man did the best Jab ever and job done for another year :)

Hubby managed to get his usual free under 65's one at our local pharmacy (gets it free as he's on vulnerable list )

Local pharmacist told me govt just changed rules the other week and 50-64's can't pay for it as I have done in the past. Anyone not entitled to the free NHS flu jab has to wait for the NHS England 50-64's free roll out , which has been delayed due to shortage of vaccines.

64 year olds that turn 65 before 31st March 2021 are eligible for free over 65 NHS jab now.
That's why I had to have the over 65's one , I'm 65 in January . Pharmacist said over 65's vaccine had an 'extra something' in to make it work faster as more at risk when you reach that age. I came out feeling depressed with the realisation that I'm getting on in years :(

P. S. I think Asda probably have the under 65 jab in stock. While we were waiting someone very obviously under 65 (possibly 40’s) booked in for later the same day for himself.

Been off work since last Tuesday with a very painful lower back. Feels like I've been kicked from one end of Sainsburys car park to the other.
Thanks to a conversation with @littleme , I've discovered the Deep Heat patches are the best thing since sliced bread, it's like having a portable radiator stuck to my back.
I can now put my socks and shoes on without screaming the place down or taking 10 minutes to ''walk'' my toes up the bed so I can reach my feet.
Apologies to anyone stuck behind me in traffic, every lump, bump and pot hole don't half hurt at times.
Same goes for anyone in Sainsburys, I can't walk very fast at the mo x

Spoke too soon, took me ages get my fat backside off the bed this morning, i'll be honest, it's only the fact I don't want to wet myself that got me moving. Once mobile, it int too bad, sit for any period of time and I'm buggered.
