Mine's now changed to that map since this afternoon , when it is now showing 1143 estimated cases for Stafford (Gone up again since this morning when it was showing 1135 , and the older version of screen).

Keep hoping the numbers are going to drop each time I look, but going in the wrong direction! :(

On another note...

I thought the rules now that all shop staff have to wear face masks ???? Each time I've been into Aldi on Lichfield Rd these past few weeks , none of the staff on the tills have been wearing masks at all. Saw some stacking the shelves wearing them today, but not the till staff again. ( I know they might say they are behind screens, but last week as I was paying the lad at the next till turned around talking to my cashier through the big gap in the screens behind him, and right across where I was )
In Sainsburys we don't have to wear masks if we are behind screens, although most choose to. Staff with hidden disability also don't have to wear masks, but they do have to wear a visor.

It's very difficult to not be in close contact with work colleagues, as we can work in confined spaces, and have to share equipment etc. We often see our work colleagues for longer in the day than our own family's and we've come to think of it was a 'work bubble'. I'm not saying this is right, but we don't have much choice but to get on with our jobs.

Aaaah thanks @littleme It's changed since I last saw the rules on it ... just seen an article saying the government made a U-turn on the decision to make staff behind screens wear face coverings (Although I'd have thought when they then get up from behind the screen they should put one on..)

Remember, don’t mix with other households indoors

But make sure you send your kids in to mingle with 30+ other infection vectors for an hour at a time, in enclosed spaces, for 6 hours.

And definitely don’t have a business meeting with any friends or family at a restaurant, you can only do that if it’s strictly a business-related gathering. No leisure! COVID finds business boring so doesn’t attend.

Walsall have more cases per day now than they did before oct 12th (they've been in tier 2 since then)

don't think we're getting out of it for a good while

155 today, tier 2 helps right?

Incubation can take 2 weeks, so they quite possibly caught it before tier 2 if they've already been tested too. After all most people only get tested if they've been in contact with a positive case, I'd not expect yo see results from any measure for 3 weeks really.

Plus Tier 2 needs people to comply with the rules, to have any chance of working, which I can’t see happening after people have had a few beers or with the mentality some people are displaying!

Overhead a family sitting on the benches in Market Square this morning as I walked past, going on about it was all a load of rubbish and more people die of other things than Covid. I doubt very much if they'll be complying with the new rules.

Hoping most people will though to get this infection rate down!

Tier 2 won't make any difference to me and hubby as we don't have any friends or family to meet up with , except for son who is in our 'Support bubble' with him living on his own.

The 2 works 'do' s have already been cancelled weeks ago back in September, one rescheduled for next April (Organisers being optimistic there, thinking it will have all gone away by then..... ) and one for next christmas.

All it will do is kill the small pubs, independant places they are already struggling with the 10pm close etc, and the other things that go with that in town, taxis etc etc

Yes, because "small pubs" are easy targets, Boris not being interested in weekly figures from Public Health England that show pubs and restaurants as causing less than three per cent of coronavirus infections while schools and care homes are responsible for more than two thirds of all positive tests.

Exactly, not to mention it'll make people that are lonely, more lonely... not everyone lives with family a other half etc.....

Can't see pubs surviving with just household and no mixing...people go to the pub to catch up with mates, get away from all that.

I honestly think it's to save money in the long run- so they don't have to bail them all out in tier 3 because they already will be closed, and another reason why the 10pm close has been put in place, it's only helped it spread, but it's about the long-term money saving to help kill places off.

There's probably been more cases spread when everyone has been kicked out at 10pm, than in the actual pubs... have you seen greengate? have you seen the taxi-rank by casa?

Madness, and that's just in a small town

And tek-monkey I like your optimisim but I don't see it helping much, it's targeting places that aren't really spreading it, and you know people will still mix go round houses, it's going to happen - infact it'll probably happen even more.

I feel for the sad for small independant places in town, that couldn't do anymore to be more safe, and they keep getting shat on, i'd of packed it in long ago if i was them, at least there always will be spoons ey!! great.. just great - they'd probably be better off closing in tier 2 they'd lose less money.

Only one thing will help, and that's a full on lockdown again sadly, I'm not sure why wales are doing the 2 week thing when... a lot of people travel around the uk, seems a bit pointless whole of UK does it or noone does

Your probably right. But by the time this government finally gives in to that we'll need a lockdown so long that it's bound to impact on Christmas giving people no choice but to behave illegally if they aren't to abandon elderly or lonely loved ones.

Boris and the ghastly Handcock (sic) need to act decisively. And all the clowns that run England, Scotland and Wales need to stop scoring points off each other and act in unison to try to get things back under control as quickly as possible.

I'm not very good at explaining myself, as you all know, but I'll give it a go.

Without giving owt away, the ward I work on has spare beds, a lot of spare beds. This time of year we're normally packed to the rafters with a very long waiting list of folk needing to come in. Mainly lonely old men who don't want to be home alone at Christmas.
Patients are being discharged, either home or into nursing care and the beds aren't being filled. Nearly all the wards are the same.

Now this is the bit I'm going struggle explain properly,
Are we being deliberately kept empty because there's a chance we could be used as a Covid /convalescence hospital? If we have any cases then they will go to another ward especially for the purpose, or we would have to nurse them in their rooms, full ppe etc. PPE consisting of a plastic apron, gloves, mask and plastic glasses.
There is no visiting across the Trust, it hasn't gone down well with some relatives, others realise it's a must and have been really nice about the decision.
It's scary times and I get so pissed off when I go into shops and see people not wearing their masks properly, some are exempt, that I understand, others seem to be of the 'I'm alright Jack' school of thought.

Its not optimism as such, no changes made can be gauged for a fortnight at the very least because that is generally the lag between infection and proof of infection. Even after that anyone that caught it before lockdown will pass it to those in their household, so realistically it's a month before you can see any evidence that the change you made is making a difference.

Agreed, but it has to be full including schools.

FSM, Y11 and Y13 kids should still be going to school though I think, at least for some of the time in order to minimise impact on exams and those that are vulnerable. There is no reason why the rest can't have a full online timetable in this day and age.

Having said that, p jr had a full timetable of online lessons and homework from the first Monday after lockdown until the end of the summer term. Of his mates from other schools, some were only on 1/4 timetable of online lessons and one had no online lessons or homework at all because 'the school want set up for it'!

Is pjr in Yr 11? Minime is, she had online lessons (yr10) all through lock down, she was very responsible and attended every single one. Now she's back at school preparing for the exams (that I don't think will take place) both she & me think that only years 11 & 13 should be at school at this time.

Part of me thinks that colleges and university's should be back in education, but the part that sees their daily disregard for masks, & other customers where I work every single day, thinks that they to should only have online learning - they should be responsible enough after all.

No he's in Y10 this year. All the year groups in his school were on 100% online lessons within 1 week of lockdown and attendance wasn't an option.

Gram we have common friends I was a bridesmaid to a jack i am not the fairy or the sister, there a shorn way of having a member of the wildlife trust (cryptic but respecting anonymity) i realise that the forum may panic that a newby is posting... but I'm little bit distraught I have totally adhered to mask space and face, wouldn't enter her house my once family home..... I will keep doing it to protect her but I'm at my sad wits end to see people who do not realise or give a feck.... (its only taken me 10 years to post and for a pandemic) I enjoy this forum and I will still lurk. I just needed to off load thoughts, it is a pandemic and maybe i'm reaching out more....
