Another 87 cases in stafford today, schools??

People just not obeying the rules??

After lockdown we're still going to be in tier 2 at this rate- long way to go mind

Schools. Every single person I know who has it or who has been directly in contact with someone who is infected, it has come from a school. It's madness they are still open.

I heard today that whole years at Walton and Leasowes have been sent home as they have cases.

Which will be as is now

What I don’t understand about the schools is this.....
I know someone, who because the teacher has got it, all the class have been sent home for 2 weeks.

The child at home has siblings in different classes and different schools.
So surely if the child has it or is carrying it and they pass it to siblings and parents then it’s going to spread to other classes and other schools.
Isn’t it?

Then times that by all the other children in the class who also have siblings. And so it goes on.

I was sent an antibody test - i was invited, by snail mail, to enlist - it was part of the React malarkey by Ipsos and Imperial. The letter came, as if by owl, just after i'd gone for the test @ the Kingston Centre referenced ^ op cit, ie late Sept. One suspects the invitation was linked to being open to testing.

I was rather convinced that i had had it back in February - sick as a pike, strangely fatigued, feeling most unusual. Conceivable transmission vector via northern Italy, some times removed, to boot.

Finger prick blood test came back negative for short or long term reactants. Tbf i'd been pretty much a recluse from the end of March, and had been taking shit seriously since the start of it. I did not eat out to help out, and have been a very good boy in general.

Interestingly the antibody test i took was > 6 months after i thought i'd had it - so i'm not totally convinced i've not already had it. I'm not confident that immunity will be long-lived, it is not evidenced in any of the other coronaviruses already out there. Having said that, some time ago i heard that those exposed to SARS-CoV-1 had an immunity response more than ten years after infection.

What we really should have is a 'So who's had Covid' thread so that we can throw real examples into dickhead's faces. I think we've been quite lucky here, and the Mexican Wave that has stalled in the North is finally wooing crowds down here.

My Attorney had it in August - flu-like body cramps + lost his sense of taste (there's a joke in there somewhere?) - only just coming back now but still feels a bit weird -

My neighbour also was quite ill, flu-like, really bad, but is now sort-of 90%.

Unfortunately we now appear to live in an age where nothing is truly happening unless it is happening to ME, NOW.

Perhaps there should be a Covid TripAdvisor

1 star - would give less if possible, terrible, would not recommend

You may well have had it, antibodies don’t stick around forever - 3 months or so I think is the average? It’s T-Cells that hold the long term memory to produce antibodies and there’s no mass-market test for those yet unfortunately, but that would tell you if you’ve had it in the long term

Unfortunately we really needed rapid antibody tests back in March/April when they were promised

Christmas /NYE will be fun if you like to go out, one person at each table(unless with family/household) and home at 10 (unless they get rid of that pointless close time which makes the problem worse not better)

proactive

Enjoying a drop of red.

Christmas Eve and NYE are both times I would never countenance going out, so no great loss as far as I'm concerned.

That's why I said if you like to go out

But I don't blame you, it's probably the worst time to go out but a lot of people do like to

It's not about us, it's about all them pubs etc banking on christmas to make any sort of profit in the next few months and not have to close, and no jobs have to be lost.

I wouldn't expect to see any downturn in number for another week. Still too early to determine whether lockdown 2 will work. My thoughts are no because everyone seems to be carrying on as normal.

We had a walk over the chase on Saturday. More groups of people than I have ever seen. All from the same household? Doubtful

I expect to be in lockdown into the new year. The kids have 2 weeks off over x mas. This will run the numbers down if people behave and don't mix. Will that happen? I can't see it myself.

I see no way out of this mess without widespread uptake of the vaccine.

Nice to see Pam Ayres still going strong .... :heyhey:

"The wonderful Pam Ayres...now 73 years old and penned her latest ode ~ to coronavirus...

I'm normally a social girl
I love to meet my mates
But lately with the virus here
We can't go out the gates
You see, we are the 'oldies' now
We need to stay inside
If they haven't seen us for a while
They'll think we've upped and died
They'll never know the things we did
Before we got this old
There wasn't any Facebook
So not everything was told
We may seem sweet old ladies
Who would never be uncouth
But we grew up in the 60s -
If you only knew the truth!
There was sex and drugs and rock 'n roll
The pill and miniskirts
We smoked, we drank, we partied
And were quite outrageous flirts
Then we settled down, got married
And turned into someone's mum,
Somebody's wife, then nana,
Who on earth did we become?
We didn't mind the change of pace
Because our lives were full
But to bury us before we're dead
Is like a red rag to a bull!
So here you find me stuck inside
For four weeks, maybe more
I finally found myself again
Then I had to close the door!
It didn’t really bother me
I'd while away the hour
I'd bake for all the family
But I've got no flaming flour!
Now Netflix is just wonderful
I like a gutsy thriller
I'm swooning over Idris
Or some random sexy killer
At least I've got a stash of booze
For when I'm being idle
There's wine and whiskey, even gin
If I'm feeling suicidal!
So let's all drink to lockdown
To recovery and health
And hope this awful virus
Doesn't decimate our wealth
We'll all get through the crisis
And be back to join our mates
Just hoping I'm not far too wide
To fit through the flaming gates!"

@Glam Thanks for asking :) Not heard back from my and hubbys test yesterday yet. Son is feeling rather rough. Made worse by the fact he's stressing over big bosses at work (franchisee) ringing him and being @arsy with him and telling him to expect a call from head office :o. Son wasn't the first one to get it at work, and quite a few others have tested positive since as well. (Now found out that the manager just above him , who was being not so happy on monday about it , has now found out he's also got it ! ).
Son is feeling very tired all the time and can't concentrate on TV , computer games , reading or anything else . Still eating well but can't taste or smell. Keeps going hot and then cold and got a bad cough . He tried eating a spoon of curry powder to see if he could taste or smell it. Nothing :hmm:

@tek-monkey Have you had your results back yet from yesterday?

@Lucy - How you feeling now?

@staffordjas - You ok? Obviously you've spoken to your lad, how is he?

@kyoto49 - Are you ok? How are you managing in isolation and do you need anything socially distancing dropping off?

I'm getting through it a minute at a time thank you @Glam I had an online shop delivered and one kind forumite messaged an offer of help.

It's just so lonely. The rabbit died today as well

In one piece of positive news, the uni kids are coming home sooner than expected. Small wins!

Sorry to hear about the rabbit @kyoto49
Was going to offer to have a drive round and walk your dog for you if needed , but when you said he had his 'qwirks' , wondered if I'd manage him.

Thought about you whilst talking to son on the phone , who is on his 4th day of isolation with having Covid and he is on his own. He's finding it lonely as well.
