Lidl closing - or opening two more?

I saw this today too. I really like the new style but I wish they used the European style bakery where it is all covered and you push your goods to the side with the utensils, especially after this year I was surprised they didn't.

They were at least bagging them at the start of the first lockdown but stopped not long after, at least the Stafford one did... might be a store thing as I did have a moan at their Twitter account because they said on their site that baked goods should be bagged, and they clearly weren’t.

I miss those hazelnut doughnuts...

I refuse to buy those unwrapped and previously uncovered baked goods from lidl after I saw a disgusting woman pick all the pecans off various cakes to put in the bag with her pecan Danish. I called her out and told her how disgusting and filthy she was for touching food others were going to buy. She denied it and then left the cake behind as she fled the store. Minger!

I've never understood why people buy unwrapped breads and pastries, or eat at buffets and carveries.

Germtastic, pop-pickers.

Are you not familiar with the 18th century proverb that says we all have to eat a peck of dirt before we die ?

You have to say this as fast as you can:

I'm not a pheasant plucker,
I'm a pheasant plucker's mate.
I'm only plucking pheasants,
Cos the pheasant pluckers late.

All contributions to the swear box much appreciated. :P

It's not dirt that is the issue, it's viruses and illness inducing bacteria I worry about. Touching other people's food is disgusting whatever way you look at it.
The only way to properly defeat viruses is to return to a pre Neolithic lifestyle and that's not going to happen anytime soon.

Version we had was -

I'm not a pheasant plucker
I'm a pheasant plucker's son
And I'm only plucking pheasants
'Til the pheasant plucker comes

You can at least take reasonable measures to ensure that a virus isn’t spread. Uncovered baked goods that all and sundry can handle is not a reasonable measure. No one is talking about defeating viruses apart from you, people are talking about reasonable, and not outlandish, measures.

In the last lockdown Sainsbury were wrapping each roll, since then not.
So I asked one of the store managers if they could go back to wrapping as I cannot buy those on offer that other shoppers have possibly touched as most I see do not use the tongs & lets face it that is hardly hyginic anyway.
Apart from that the rolls that are wrapped are on a X4 packet and normally X6 so a non runner if you only want 1 or 2, he agreed and said he would raise it at a meeting but this was a good few weeks back.

That's an interesting position.

Not sure a 'what's-going-on-with-Lidl' thread is exactly the place to explore it.

I'd be up for exploring it with you, but unfortunately i had impacted wisdom teeth, and died @ the age of 18.

Oh wait - amazingly i survived that - here i am resurrected from the dead - woo! - so let's talk about Neolithic lifestyles...

Shoot, now my appendix just burst. Guess i'm dead again.

Ignore me.
