Crooked Bridge Road and Surrounding area - good to move to?

It's a busy road, you overlook the prison at the bottom end where parking is also an issue. I had a choice between there and where I ended up. Think I made the right choice but I do like Westbourne? Villas further up away from the prison. Still a busy bit of road though

Having said all of that I wouldn't move to Stafford through choice!

The mention of Crooked Bridge Road can still cause me consternation. I spent my early childhood growing up in Sandyford Street 65+ years ago and back then the lads of neighbouring Crooked Bridge Road (Corporation St end) were people to be feared. The 'triangle' formed by Sandyford St, Crooked Bridge Rd and the (Sandon Rd) end of Corporation St was like a microcosm of a Middle Eastern conflict zone at the time with frequent fights and stone-throwing battles. Can't remember which decade (70s/80s?) when all the Crooked Bridge Rd 3-storey houses seemed to be vacated and undergoing major refurbishment with the result that today I’m pleased to say the landmines have been cleared and it's all been gentrified !

Anyway, back on topic. Crooked Bridge Road is within very easy walking distance of the Greyhound Inn, which actually is a proper pub.
Yes, I've used the Greyhound as much as the Princess Royal, Kings Arms and Joiners Arms in recent years.

I think it was the early 80s when the "big houses" were all renovated, it was either that or redevelop the site, I suspect, at that point.

A friend lived in a Sandyford Street house in the mid-70s - you could touch hands through a crack in the wall with someone outside in the street. They all went around the same time.

Is Crooked Bridge Road the road where the lady was murdered and left in a green wheelie bin? So sad.

My father told me that around the mid 50's he noticed a couple of settlement cracks in our house and also a neighbour's a few doors down (Sandyford). He then enquired at every house in the row and some nearby on Corporation Street and was rather concerned by what he discovered. Within 12 months we'd moved house.

Even today, some of those houses on the corner of corporation Street and crooked bridge road look like they shouldn't be standing given the amount of list they have on them!

Hello Stafford Forum

I am currently looking at moving to Stafford. I'm looking at a property on Crooked Bridge Road close to the prison. Does anyone on here know anything about the area in terms of how good it is to live in? In terms of crime, the community, amenities etc. I have been researching but its a good idea to get some opinions from the people who actually live in the town. It seemed like a decent enough area to me.
Crooked bridge rd is fine. Close to town and if you work at the gaol, you can jump out of bed and be in work!
I lived on Oxford gardens for many years. Not a bad area. Good luck with your search...
