What are we watching on TV?

I've started on The Trials Of Life, the third stage of my epic Attenborough journey.

Second episode tonight.

Oh I rewatched that recently, great series,

I've been watching much more than I was earlier in the pandemic, due to being able to 'lose myself' in shows a little more now (I was too distracted before).

Rewatched all of 'Mad Men', now on 'Halt and Catch Fire' (starts as a 'Mad Men' clone but is very good once it finds its own direction), The Crown, an Aussie zombie (sorta) show called 'Glitch', 'The Stand' (not great but very watchable) and attempting to watch 'American Horror Story' to see if I can get past season 4 this time (I generally rage quit about halfway into each series past Asylum as it always goes batshit crazy off a cliff at that point).

Glitch

Amazing series, just got to the end (seen through blarty tears) and devestated that it is the end... Can't see another one happening...

I'm only 3 episodes in so far. Hasn't really hit that point where I'm absolutely gripped by it yet but it's got enough intrigue and promise to keep me interested.

That Attenborough boxset looks amazing, dare I look at the price?!

How many series have you seen. I'm not much into it but wife is & just started series 3 last night. Is there much to go? I didn't think it could go beyond series 2 to be honest.

Don't worry, series 3 is the last!

I loved it.

Looking forward to a new season of Ozark soon.

I hadn’t heard of this and always on the lookout for good things to watch I googled it.
The storyline sounded incredibly familiar so I wondered if I had watched it after all.

I realised that actually, the plot is very similar (people coming back from the dead in a small town) to The Returned which was on TV about 5 or 6 years ago. I can’t actually remember what happened though.

Might give that a go,

Currently watching The Serpent. Thought that the first two episodes were quite slow but getting into it now.

My friends watching the Serpent and loves it, strangely it doesn't appeal to me even though its a true life crime. I might have to give it a go though as I finished Glitch last night & apart from 'Celebrity Best home cook' *or 'Extrirdianary Escapes with Sandi Toxtiv' there's nothing on I want to watch.

*Typically, they're both on at the sane time on different channels.

The Serpent is good but it's a bit confusing when it keeps flipping between different countries and backwards and forwards between different years.

Had to watch Elizabeth R on BBC4 tonight. Always good to see Glenda Jackson firing on all cylinders. Hard to believe it was made half a century ago !!

I don't think writers, dramatists, film makers, story tellers in general and historians will ever get tired of writing about Elizabeth 1st. She's now as much myth and legend as she is history.

BBC4 tonight the film Edie. Sheila Hancock plays an elderly lady who despite her age wants to achieve a lifelong ambition of climbing Mount Suilven in Scotland. Helped by a young Scot mountaineer who gradually comes to appreciate the sheer tenacity of the old lady.
Of particular interest to me is the scenery as Suilven is my favourite mountain bar none. I did it twice in the 70's and again in 1998. It is a very distinctive and ancient mountain, at 2400 feet far from the highest, but a long walk and then a relentless grind to gain your height. Apparently Dame Hancock was 84 at the time of filming and did all the things you see on Suilven, which is impressive.
I have some pix of it, but they're not very good, so I'd resort to Googling Mount Suilven and selecting images if you want to be astounded by it's distinctive shape.

Well we finished it last night and agree with @Thehooperman that it was a bit confusing when it flipped between different years.
However, after finding the first two episodes a little slow, I’m so glad that we persevered.
I thoroughly enjoyed it although I found it quite harrowing in parts. I didn’t sleep well last night because I kept dreaming about it.

It’s just awful though to think it’s actually a true story. There’s some very evil people out there. I felt so sorry for the victims and the parents of the victims.

I had a 'day off' yesterday and watched Alpha Papa, which is quite good - certainly worth a watch.

But, my current nightly series is Gerry Anderson's UFO, via You Tube, which still seems to have it all on.

I did watch it all again a couple of years ago, but it certainly bears re-watching.

Made in 1969 and set in the far distant future of 1980, at a time when the advances of the previous ten years made that seem as though anything could happen in the next decade.

There are several features that are worthy of note, beyond just how 'good' it all is - the variations in the type of storyline in each episode, the number of non-white actors playing parts for which non-whiteness was not 'really necessary', the sheer amount of smoking, etc.

The storyline variations were part of its downfall, perhaps, the "suits" struggled to understand what the target audience was, apparently.

Aye Alpha Papa is a good slice of Partridge!

Glitch has hooked me in a little more now and I've just started watching Fargo, which is excellent.

Been following the re-run of Battlestar Galactica on BBC2 late on Friday nights. This isn't the original series, which frankly was a kids program, a bit of a Star Wars rip-off at the time. This is a reboot made about 10 years ago which is much darker, to the point of being grim. I note the guide usually says 'Viewers may find some scenes upsetting' which would never have happened with the original series.
