Not sure if comment in petrol station this morning was aimed at me or not , as I was only one wearing a mask inside and sanitising hands ... Bloke behind me " Nice to not wear masks and all that stuff now, especially as they're a waste of time and don't work anyway " . Unmasked assistant at till agreed with him.

Someone in the Co-op yesterday looked at me like I was contagious because I was still wearing one.

I'll still keep wearing mine ( coming in handy to hide the allergic reaction to the beauty salon wax this time as well :D )

Tell them you've just popped out to get your shopping before you self isolate :)

Some interesting/worrying/reassuring news today out of Israel:

- The bad news is that vaccine efficacy in preventing infection & symptomatic disease (mainly Pfizer) goes from 75-79% to 16% within 4 months against the Delta variant.

- The good news is that the vaccines maintain 88-91% protection against hospitalizations & severe symptoms over 4 months against the Delta variant.

In summary, it looks like the vaccine won't protect you against getting sick and passing it on for long but it should still keep deaths down. The longer gap between doses in the UK might also have an impact on that range.

Pleased to say when I nipped back into the Wildwood Co-op this afternoon there were quite a few others wearing masks and keeping a distance at the tills. A young teenage lad was in front of me wearing a mask as well. Found the main ones who were maskless and not social distancing this visit were some of the oldies , who could clearly see people leaving a good distance , but walking closely past the queue with their trolleys (when they could easily given a wide berth) without masks. Seemed to be making a point....I can , so I will!
Nice to see some staff , except for the one whos till I had to go to when it was my turn (he'd previously worn one before restrictions lifted ) , were also wearing masks today.

Think all this panic about empty shelves in supermarkets on the news is being manufactured by some supermarkets themselves. The few items I went especially to the Co-op for yesterday and the day before weren't on the shelves. Went up first thing this morning and shelves still empty . BUT saw a big HGV delivering first thing (And most impressed with his reversing skills past the parked cars) . An hour later as I was walking past he was just leaving so must have delivered a fair bit. Gave them time to restack shelves and went up again about 8 hours later , expecting some items to be on the shelves by then.....still empty . Know they may be short staffed , but when they are standing around chatting rather than concentrating on getting stuff out on the shop floor..

I've said it before but I'll say it again. That store is very badly managed and some of the staff truly horrendous people. Has been that way ever since Kwik Save days.

There are lots of shortages of things right now, not helped by people panic/bulk buying

There is a shortage of cars generally due to supply issues with computer chips. Some manufacturers are overcoming this shortage by removing discounts or raising prices

I don't know about Rolls Royce but it really annoys me when I see news reports of shortages & then they show scenes of empty shelves without indicating where & when. That's what prompts panic buying & shortages. The BBC showed an online interview with a senior Iceland exec. He made a point of saying that panic buying is a major factor made worse by media reporting. Immediately after the report they showed 2 scenes of empty shelves (I'm sure 1 of these I'd seen at the start of the pandemic), they then cut to a report outside a fuel forecourt about the shortage of have drivers "BP have reported a shortage of tanker drivers". There's your next panic/shortage :master:

The media have got a lot to answer for with regard to panic buying. The pictures they show are usually empty shelves in a Tesco Metro or Sainsburys Local in the middle of London which don't carry a lot of stock anyway due to the size. It is all utter b@llocks, went in Asda this morning & the shelves were rammed, fresh produce, meat the lot!.

I'd say they're concealing more than just the Brexit effect. It makes good cover for all kinds of misbehaviour and sneaky bills being passed through Parliament.
