Is this rising damp ?!

I have just noticed a patch of my wall, can’t have been there long. To me it looks like damp. I’m confused as I wouldn’t expect to find it on an interior wall.
Any ideas ?

It does look like damp - it may not be 'rising', it could be getting across the cavity, if there is one - or even from a small pipe leak..?

Theres no damp on the other side of the wall . Could it be leaking from the roof ? That wall separates the outhouse , has a separate roof. Double bricked walls
I don’t think there’s any pipes in the walls but there is in the roof space above that wall

Is it at ground level?

I have a patch where a solid floor breaches a damp-course, right in the middle of the house.

If it was running down from the roof, you would get issues higher up.

How old is the building? Has there been any recent work? Etc.

I’m guessing around 1960’s . Doesn’t look like any work been done in a very long time

it’s on ground floor , so I guess so
It's plausible then...

.. but odd to just start happening now.

Is there a wooden floor?

You can (rarely) get a situation were rodents will build a nest that allows the wicking to occur across a previously OK damp course.

I don’t know if there was any issues before I moved in… there was no plaster on the walls so there wouldn’t be any obvious signs

Was plastered back in June.
Just odd how it’s suddenly appeared . It’s all powdery

We have a wall between our living room and downstairs loo that dips that.....there's no plumbing on that wall and we were told when we bought it from the council that it could be caused by water UNDER the house.....nothing was ever done....but like you, that wall had been plastered half the way up just before I moved in, so there may well have been problems in the past

Mmm, it could well be it - bare brick doesn't show much evidence, but the plaster will fluff up with the moisture - it might subside a bit in better weather, but it won't heal completely...

They look to have removed the plaster and 'fixed' the problem, but not completely.

Oh god don’t say that ! There was only about 25% of the house that had plaster on the walls when I moved in! Hope I’m not going to start finding MORE problems 🫣

Gypsum plaster isn't great and so any damp can get in and cause issues. Finding someone who will plaster any other way is pretty impossible though.
I’m going to find some non gypsum plaster and perfect my plastering skills 😬
