It would appear the Reason Welsh Rarebits is only using Sandon Rd Motors as a pop up shop is because the land is up for sale:

I imagine that it's actually been for sale since Sandon Road Motors left*, even including the time that Browse was there.

* ten years ago?

Not sure, just spotted it today. But not 10 years - I'm sure I remember cars being sold there in the time I've been back in Stafford.
Fairly sure that I took a friend's car for a service to the new place in 2007.

They did store cars at the old place for a bit, on and off.

You are correct that Sandon Road Motors stored their Hyundai stock there. Now that the owners of Sandon Road Motors have sold the business to Holdcrofts it is surplus to requirements and therefore up for sale.

Maybe it would sell quicker for development if the old snooker club was to become part of a very large brownfield site ?!?

Been a strangely neglected part of the town for some years for sure. I think the best thing for the Sandonia now is a quick kill to put it out of its misery.

I personally would like to see that, if for nothing other than a nostalgic view of the 'San.' But the state it's in now, it doesn't seem realistic.

Great opportunity to destroy another bit of Old Stafford.

Not much more to go once the Sandonia has gone, just got to find a way to demolish the shire hall and the ancient high house, then the council's mission will be complete.

Those buildings are still in reasonable condition. The 'San' is a money pit with no real target at the end of it. It was doomed from the moment it became a Bingo Hall and should be put down mercifully. Level it and be done with it.

Proof of my argument if ever it was needed.
The place is (pardon my French) f***ed. If it's of interest, in the sixties I was a student in a far off place, but when I came home during the summer it was necessary to get a job to supplement my grant. I got a job cleaning the ceiling above the rear lower level seats at the Sandonia, that is, the underside of the balcony. I had to peel off decades of brown slime that had gathered up there from smokers and gropers on the seats below (although I had no objection to the gropers, that was a tradition of old) but the smokers had created hell on Earth on that ceiling. But, in all fairness, that was a bonus, if ever I needed a reason not to smoke, that was it.
Now none of that has much to do with the 'San' I know, but I put it just to give you an idea that I have some history with that cinema, back to when I was a school kid out of Dartmouth Street (Kingston in real money I suppose,) visiting it in order to see 'X' films which really wasn't a problem in those days, one shilling and sixpence and you were in to see fantastically terrifying films such as 'The Wasp Women' and good old 'Plan 9.' :barf:
I just think a dying animal should be put out of its misery, and gloating over the rotting corpse is not honourable. But, that's just me.

Reason Welsh Rarebits? I'll have to pop in there next time I'm passing. I love a bit of cheese on toast.

The Supervet would kick your arse for saying that.

How do I edit this?

It would be nice to see whatever new build it becomes save the existing frontage, but I don't have great hopes...

It's not the huge loss some think it is - it's the architectural equivalent of putting a bullet through the head of the horse that fell at Becher's Brook.

Is it unfortunate? Yes
Is it an unprecedented tragedy? No
