Lets go back to the days before the Pubco ruiners.
Ron Blackham, the best keeper of Banks's in the town. He spent some 6 years at the Royal in the 60s then moved to the Holmcroft in 67. I know he was still there in 85. He probably not only kept the best pint of Banks's but maybe the best pint of any beer while at the Holmcroft.

Stan (Webb?) from the Nags Head ( early 80's ) and pre Clive

Brian and Pocheen from the Unicorn, then The Sun Smithfield ( later freelance for Jenks )

Shaky Mike from the Star at Cop Mere - lovely bloke

Now then, there was a one eyed gent who had a wooden slate for a till and cabbages were placed on tables at 6.00pm from the allotment, and they served pints of milk ( a revelation in them days ) - it must have been The Pheasant

Ron from the Bird - now of the poliss

The amazingly tolerant Feenans of The Eagle ( hope I got the name right )

Cash register eyed Mr Smith of Props

erm

I may now be sounding like a drinker, so on that note... - time a for a swift one

I know. Keith Webb, son of Nellie was there in 1980, then there was a Laura, can't remember Stan may have been Keith's brother . I certainly remember Ron Wilson, left suddenly in 1990 owing money to the old Ansells Darts League.
The Feenans yes, you could go in there, via the big german shepherd and order a plate of beef sandwiches, nothing was too much trouble for Audrey. Then the council moaned about some stupid sign outside, really p.....ing her off. It closed and got covered in graffitti and loads of posters, council didn't moan then, just the whole of stafford for a few yeas.

Never been a cheaper time to buy a pub, with bars going for 50 per cent of the asking price - but beer sales in pubs at their lowest since WWII still makes it an insane time to buy one

Unless of course, you have a cunning plan
