my missus just won one of those Bose iPod SoundDock thingies (worth £250!) but she hasn't actually got an ipod to dock in it (she just spends all day at work entering competitions, regardless of what they're for, bless her)..

My Nana won £2000 on the lottery last week. She went out and bought a laptop, not sure why when she can't even work her mobile phone!

The best thing i've ever won was a holiday through work. This was performance based so i didn't actually enter a competition as such. The most I've won on the lottery is a tenner :(

How lucky are you?

4000th post? Whatever, I'm nonchalant..
I won a bottle of Vimto for throwing a welly the furthest at a fete at St Anne's Church. I'm good at throwing wellys...

The only thing i can remember winning (and remembering isn't my forté), was the Chilli Challenge in my old man's local in Hertfordshire. It's not quite the same as winning a competition, as the challenge is to eat a whole bowl of mega hot chilli without the aid of any liquids or rice etc. I was the only contestant, and i  chilli, so it was a piece of piss. I believe i still have a certificate hanging up in the Bull in Redbourn to this day. And i'm proud.

That's the sweetest, funniest thing. My nanna used to answer her phone by holding the TV remote to her ear

When I was nine I went to the school fete on my own, as I was involved in some pointless activity or other associated with it, and bought a raffle ticket, subsequently winning a bottle of Rose d'Anjou. They didn't want to let me have it, but I beat them down and took it home. I remember telling some teacher "This is my raffle ticket, I paid for it and that is now my bottle of wine. If you have an issue with the licensing authorities then that is for you to resolve". They may not be the exact words but that is the gist of it - and I won in the end - twice, I like to think!

I won a load of Ann Summers "novelty items" from our local pub a couple of years ago

I thought it was really funny and provided hours of entertainment :heyhey: - but my mum came to stay and found my "novelty items" and she has never let me forget it.

I won tickets to a concert at the milton keynes bowl, good night out as well.
I still get flashbacks (!) over the firework display during the 1812. Due to the slope of the site, the audience were mostly somewhat higher than the launch point and many of the carefully designed pyrotechnics were still burning when they reached the upper sections. It was like a Tokyo fire raid in 1945. That bloke putting out the fire on his picnic blanket with a nonchalant splurge from his Thermos really was Mr Cool.

But the best bit was the magnificent aerobatic display by the starlings.

i was so chuffed and loved my new duplo lego, but then i got a letter from the magazine saying theyd sent me the wrong prize....so did i mind just sending it back to them!!!!

i then got a box of basic instead, which was even better because it had window pieces and flowers.

There used to be a free quiz in the Litten Tree on a Thursday and over seven months we won £1,250. Friday mornings have never been the same since.

When I lived in Germany I won loads of stuff from BFBS radio inclulding a microwave oven, le creuset pan set, concert tickets, CD's, DVD's and a weekend in the Hartz mountains with a landrover freelander to take us there. I always seem to be lucky on tombolas too. Only ever won £10 on the lottery though.

BFBS were competition whores, it was the only way they could get people to listen. I won 4 t shirts (bad taste summer tour), Viz anual, big pointy foam hand, cd's, dvd's, mugs various and a lot of other BFBS tat beside.

I actually got a life time ban from the one second song competition due to me phoning in and winning so much at it lol

Is that a Moomin?
When I was six there was a school disco and one of the raffle prizes was a tiny tea set decorated with roses and made of Real China. I sat at the front gazing with wonder at it and as soon as I could bought a raffle ticket. The most tense 25 minutes of my young life followed as i waited for the draw and the finally as the tickets were called.... I won and was over the moon....My mum told me later that night that my teacher had seen me admiring it and had thrown the raffle so I would win...Unethical maybe but I loved Miss Drummond until I left my school :P

Did anybody experience the BFBS Wireless for the Blind radiothons in Cyprus in the late 60s/early70s? They involved kidnappings, mutilation and extortion to such an extent that it had to be stopped. But it was all in a good cause.
