Admin you really are 'all knowing' and slightly sneaky, but not so sneaky as OP seems to be...

Are you sure, Mrs M? I only ask, because spike is using The Forum from London, from a well known broadcasting corporation!
You'd think they'd make a little effort to hide such things.
I suspect most people wouldn't think to check
I guess I'm both suspicious and a techy person, its the first thing I'd do!

Probably, if they had something to hide. This person (a Staffordian), as I said, is not a reporter. Admin, I thought you would be a little more confidential, also, he is not in London.

To be fair if Admin says his IP links back to a well known broadcaster in London, I'm more inclined to believe that than its an amazing coincidence. Certain companies own ranges of addresses, these are usually static. Even if they were indeed dynamic it is a massive leap of faith to believe someone not associated with said company amazingly picked up one of their IP addresses when posting here.

Unless he works for them and uses a VPN into the office, which would explain the location problem? If they're kosher get them to come back and say hello, rather than a dodgy looking hit and run? The impression they left was not one of a concerned old friend, just a very quick request for imformation with no background.

Sorry if I sound harsh, but like I said I'm a suspicious bugger who's also technically minded. Only Admin has access to their logs, and I trust his judgement.

I will re-phrase, He's not from London, he lives in Stafford and a Staffordian. Do none of you use your pc's at work??

I think the main point everyone is making Mrs M, is that we have the right to find it suspocious because of the nature of the post AND the fact that it was a bluntly asked question.

Had it have been worded along the lines of my example below we might have really believed it was a local...

"Hi everyone. My name is blah, and i live in the blah area of Stafford. Sorry to make my first post in this nature, but I've heard about blah blah blah, and think that I may know the family from when I worked at blah blah... could anyone confirm this please or know anything more about it? My heart really goes out to them anyway of course, whether I know them or not. Thank you"

Thank you, wmrcomputers, that was exactly the reason that I felt it prudent to reveal the user was from the BBC. I would never normally reveal any information about a user, except in exceptional circumstances such as this. I dare say that admitting one is from Stafford narrows things down more in terms of revealing information about oneself than admitting you work for the BBC, at any rate!

Mrs M, you might know this chap, but I have to deal with dozens of spammers and such every week, and I don't know spike from Adam! Surely you can see my position? A new user signs up on the day the story hits national headlines, posting from within the BBC, and immediately posts a single-line, terse request for information on a very sensitive subject. As wmr goes on to say:

Indeed. This is a heart-wrenching story, the sort of thing none of us would wish on anyone, and the last thing I wanted was a reporter fishing for information amongst a young couples' heartache. This may well not be the case, but without spike giving us more information about what he wants to know, and why, there is no way for me to know!

Well you could have said "Ah, sorry, he does indeed work at the beeb in London. He is however a Staffordian, hence me knowing him, I'm sure he'll be along in a sec to clear things up himself". Instead of:

I even said maybe he's using a VPN to access his work, which appears to be whats happened if he actually lives in Stafford (or does he commute?), you could have chipped in there and maybe admitted he was with the BBC? You can't blame people for being suspicious, and especially not admin when the facts told him the post was from a BBC London office!

OK, let's all take a breather! I'm forgetting my manners:

Welcome to Stafford Forum, spike. :)

Please don't be put off by this perhaps daunting first-post experience! As you can appreciate, the subject matter is very delicate, and we have had instances in the past where similarly macabre topics have been discussed only for relatives of the deceased to sign-up and say how they had been hurt at what they had read.

The news story is a terrible one, but an important one all the same, and so it will be discussed like any other matter important to the town. If you could give us a proper introduction and some background information, spike, that would be great. You don't have to reveal anything personal! Please see the anonymity clause for more info. :)

So the fact that I have been a member of stafford forum since May 2007 and said that people were wrong in their assumptions counts for nothing then.

No, of course that isn't the case, which is why I simply asked:

As per the above post, let's all just take a step back, allow this topic to get on track, and wait for spike to come and introduce himself. :)

Thanks.

Mrs M, I'm sure no offence was meant towards yourself, but it is a delicate subject and the only facts available didn't stack up. I'd much rather people were cautious here than being the ones you always get in newspapers. "A neighbour, who wished not to be named, said lots of untrue crap...".

Anyway, welcome to the forum spike. Don't worry, if you're local you'll be tolerated. Just like us ;)

I'm quite shocked to hear that "a member of hospital" has currently been suspended pending an investigation, when at this point in time there is nothing to suggest that the cause of death was anything more than the fact that these twins were born 3 months prematurely.
The work these people do is heroic. They deserve every bit of praise they can get, especially at times like these when the press are so quick to try and make it sound like they have failed through some ridiculous lack of care. It is for this reason that I dedicate my annual christmas light show to raising money for the Special Care Baby Unit at Stafford, to try and aid them with the purchase of more equipment so that they can try to help more premature children survive.

My wife had premature twins that were born at just 27 weeks weighing less than 2lb each, and we praise the staff at Stafford Hospital (and birmingham for some of the time) that gave them both the best possible start in life. One of the twins passed away much later at 8 months of age, but the fact that my wife was lucky enough for one to still be alive today is a miracle in itself with thanks to the Special Baby Care units.
Obviously the couple in the news now are less fortunate, and I can only hope that they be allowed to grieve but also receive all the support they need from everyone around them.

My heart goes out to the family, so sad. Anything anyone says about this topic is going to sound heartless to anyone involved with the family :(

From the hospital perspective it seems hugely unfortunate: the maternity/SCBU units were nothing to do with the enquiry, now all news outlets are going to cotton on to this too and use it as more evidence of 'the worst hospital in the UK' (apparently this was said on the news earlier this week).
I've always had nothing but praise for the staff involved with babies.

All hail the public inquiry. Best thing David has done yet.
Hope it all comes out, the place is a shambolic excuse for a NHS Hospital. There are so, so many 'stories' I hear near daily (current not media) that this can only be seen as the best possible solution for Stafford Hospital.
I can hand on heart say I wouldn't rush up there for a plaster, today or tomorrow.

My doctor recently read thru my notes circa 2003 (before this problem started??) from the hospital that near killed me, not once, not twice but three times...yep, it's truly horrrific, and as he said "..........>massive gasp< Bloody hell MISS T you're one of the lucky ones then?" Yep, guess that's how I'm supposed to see it. But the reality is my 3 day old son was nearly without his Mummy.
