I guess I'm both suspicious and a techy person, its the first thing I'd do!Wormella said:I suspect most people wouldn't think to checktek-monkey said:You'd think they'd make a little effort to hide such things.Admin said:Are you sure, Mrs M? Probably, if they had something to hide. This person (a Staffordian), as I said, is not a reporter. Admin, I thought you would be a little more confidential, also, he is not in London.tek-monkey said:You'd think they'd make a little effort to hide such things.Admin said:Are you sure, Mrs M? gotta love this ere forum!Pie & Ale said:Getting even better now!
Thank you, wmrcomputers, that was exactly the reason that I felt it prudent to reveal the user was from the BBC. I would never normally reveal any information about a user, except in exceptional circumstances such as this. I dare say that admitting one is from Stafford narrows things down more in terms of revealing information about oneself than admitting you work for the BBC, at any rate!wmrcomputers said:I think the main point everyone is making Mrs M, is that we have the right to find it suspocious because of the nature of the post AND the fact that it was a bluntly asked question.
Had it have been worded along the lines of my example below we might have really believed it was a local...
"Hi everyone. My name is blah, and i live in the blah area of Stafford. Sorry to make my first post in this nature, but I've heard about blah blah blah, and think that I may know the family from when I worked at blah blah... could anyone confirm this please or know anything more about it? My heart really goes out to them anyway of course, whether I know them or not. Thank you"
Forum etiquette????
Indeed. This is a heart-wrenching story, the sort of thing none of us would wish on anyone, and the last thing I wanted was a reporter fishing for information amongst a young couples' heartache. This may well not be the case, but without spike giving us more information about what he wants to know, and why, there is no way for me to know!wmrcomputers said:On a serious note though, and especially incase anyone who knows the family ARE reading this... my heart genuinely does go out to you and I'm sure 100% of Stafford Forum users would agree.
Well you could have said "Ah, sorry, he does indeed work at the beeb in London. He is however a Staffordian, hence me knowing him, I'm sure he'll be along in a sec to clear things up himself". Instead of:Mrs M said:I will re-phrase, He's not from London, he lives in Stafford and a Staffordian. Do none of you use your pc's at work??
I even said maybe he's using a VPN to access his work, which appears to be whats happened if he actually lives in Stafford (or does he commute?), you could have chipped in there and maybe admitted he was with the BBC? You can't blame people for being suspicious, and especially not admin when the facts told him the post was from a BBC London office!Mrs M said:Probably, if they had something to hide. Im sorry everyone, but when I read the first post I thought it was someone fishing for info - such as freelance .... I just hope this family are left in peace - it is just so sadspike said:Awful story around today about newborn twins who died at Stafford Hospital. Admin edit: Amended thread title for clarity.
So the fact that I have been a member of stafford forum since May 2007 and said that people were wrong in their assumptions counts for nothing then.Admin said:Thank you, wmrcomputers, that was exactly the reason that I felt it prudent to reveal the user was from the BBC. Mrs M, you might know this chap, but I have to deal with dozens of spammers and such every week, and I don't know spike from Adam! Surely you can see my position? A new user signs up on the day the story hits national headlines, posting from within the BBC, and immediately posts a single-line, terse request for information on a very sensitive subject. As wmr goes on to say:

No, of course that isn't the case, which is why I simply asked:Mrs M said:So the fact that I have been a member of stafford forum since May 2007 and said that people were wrong in their assumptions counts for nothing then.
As per the above post, let's all just take a step back, allow this topic to get on track, and wait for spike to come and introduce himself.Admin said:Are you sure, Mrs M? I only ask, because spike is using The Forum from a well known broadcasting corporation, based in London!
Well said wmr,I was trying to write something similar but couldnt get the words outwmrcomputers said:I'm quite shocked to hear that "a member of hospital" has currently been suspended pending an investigation, when at this point in time there is nothing to suggest that the cause of death was anything more than the fact that these twins were born 3 months prematurely.
The work these people do is heroic. They deserve every bit of praise they can get, especially at times like these when the press are so quick to try and make it sound like they have failed through some ridiculous lack of care. It is for this reason that I dedicate my annual christmas light show to raising money for the Special Care Baby Unit at Stafford, to try and aid them with the purchase of more equipment so that they can try to help more premature children survive.
My wife had premature twins that were born at just 27 weeks weighing less than 2lb each, and we praise the staff at Stafford Hospital (and birmingham for some of the time) that gave them both the best possible start in life. One of the twins passed away much later at 8 months of age, but the fact that my wife was lucky enough for one to still be alive today is a miracle in itself with thanks to the Special Baby Care units.
Obviously the couple in the news now are less fortunate, and I can only hope that they be allowed to grieve but also receive all the support they need from everyone around them.
