At least the local moggies will have somewhere to go lol - sand and play parks never tend to work lol
At one of my many schools the penance for skiving games in the summer months was to get the cat-turds out of the high-jump pit. One 'clever' lad decided to just rake a bit of sand over it and the first jumper emerged from the pit with about a dozen turds stuck to him - one on the back of his head - words and blows were subsequently exchanged..

What? And get a tiger-turd stuck to the back of your head? Hardly a vast improvement, I think..

That's a real shame, loads of memories down there - the summer holidays always seemed sunnier back then. I know that the pool had become expensive to maintain in recent years with several coats of cheap paint being applied annually instead of the proper stuff which should last a decade - down to budgets again.
It did used to attract 'anti-social behaviour' as I believe we must now call it. But since the shelter was blocked off apparently that has improved.

Excellent photograph, John Marwood! Did you take it yourself? I assume this is a recent development?

(Please, no jokes about developing photographs ;) )

Yes, the paddling pool was a landmark but it had become an unsightly one, rarely used due to the rubbish weather we get. This new park is fantastic, they've spent loads of money on what kids want...they sent out questionnaires to hundreds of local children two yrs ago asking them what they wanted, and by the plans they've taken all of that on board it seems. It's as good as Telford Park, just smaller, and the skate area is long, long overdue. Hats off to the council on this one, they have excelled themselves....just hope they care for the new grass areas enough to ensure it stays looking green and lovely.
