Stafford Soap Opera

I've had three cans of Fosters and the ideas are flowing. Reflecting on a forum member's guest appearances on Biker Grove got me thinking. We should campaign for Stafford to broadcast its own soap opera. Now, I must point out I think Eastenders and Coronation Road are a bag of bollocks, but I would most definitely watch a Stafford-based show. They let the Scousers have one before they all shagged and then killed each other so why not Stafford I ask? Perhaps Sofa with his wealth of expertise in performing arts could arrange for a pilot show to be made?

That is a great idea and we should make a pilot episode for the film festival next year! Hands up anyone who would like a role!

Just returned from my Uncle's 40th b'day party, each time these events(!) happen my family seems to grow, to date my Nan has 8 children(can confirm that number will not go up) 20 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. The crazy thing about this side of my family is I have been introduced to people that I've known for years that turn out to be relatives for example my RE teacher at King Eddies, great uncle! My Dad, his older brother (I'll call him Uncle Roger) and one of his sisters(Auntie Elaine) were all born on the same day but all two years apart. All Hail Nanna Jackson.

It was a bit tight of your great uncle not to let you know that he was related to you when you might have been bricking it about the homework you hadn't done type scenario...

I like this Stafford soap idea and seeing that I have my finger in the Film Festival I will suggest we start asking for scripts soon. If the Uni are doing a feature Film then lets get the soap up. They have all the streaming technology up there so letsuse it. So what we gonna call this soap? Suggestions please

Oh fook! Tenshon - you're only a fookin media genius! It could even be set in Albert and Victoria Terraces!

Although, the Railway is the classic local á la Rovers or Queen Vic. I can't imagine us getting permission to film in the North End pubs, except the Tap. Or perhaps everyone would drink in the newly reopened Sun Inn.

Come to think of it, a soap based in a pub is not a bad idea. If only there were some publicans with a good looking pub...

Many soaps revolve around a location - Eastenders has Albert Square, Corrie has the Street, Brookie had the Close, Emmerdale had a farm but got rid of it. Many other soaps revolve around groups of friends and/or collegues. What binds our characters together? Where is the through line? Is it a pub? Is it an area of town? I vote for a pub. One room where various people come and go. Easily filmed - no messing. No set dressing, just couple of lamps. Easy. You can introduce the different sets of characters one by one and then they can all squeeze in together come Friday night. It could all be filmed in the Sidings in the Railway...

Yep, that is my favourite so far. Anyone got any constructive critisism to offer?

That would be great, but it could get expensive if we have to do endless retakes because everyones sozzled. Everyone will have to buy their own drinks and crisps unless we can get a big sponsor. Anyone got a few grand spare?

sofa, the railway would make a great central setting. i don't know shit about putting together theatrical productions though. plots, scripts character development etc will have to be left to the professionals. i'll do what i can to help though. if we did a pilot show it could be used as a showcase for local film-making talent and could potentially be a great portfolio piece for those involved. i truly believe there's an abundance of creative thinkers on this forum with the enthusiasm to make this project happen. from a PR and marketing perspective i can see this generating massive publicity on a local level, and with the power of the internet, the possibilities to bring this production to a wider audience are endless.
but as sofa said, we need to start thinking about characters. i urge you all to submit suggestions:

i don't mind being an extra. like the ones in The Bill, where they reoccur several times in one episode.

i'd love to be in it, as long as i'm not the anonymous ensign who gets killed on the first away mission..
