Have been hearing the scurrying of feet in my garage roof recently... only of an evening. And just managed to spy a flash of a small object running across a beam the other evening... but it was dark. I'm not sure if it's a large mouse or a small rat. but i reckon there's three of them.

I'm going with it's a mouse, because i don't want to belieive its a rat at the moment... So where would be the best place to get a humaine trap from? Any ideas? Any Advice on how to catch it? Any good mouse recipes?!

I saw a humane trap on sale only the other day, but I can't be sure where it was - probably B&Q, Wilkinson's or Maplin - yes, Maplin, they have a pest control section...

I find orange peel or chocolate to be adequate enticements.

If you are going down the humane trap route please bear in mind if your emptying the varmits far away from your property - your could just passing on the problem to someone else- unless you go to great lengths to take them somewhere like the Chase or Doxey Marshes.

But Yep, Wilko's, B&Q and Homebase all sell humane mouse traps, and less humane ones that actually work and have a satisfying snap sound as they kill the blasted creatures.

Also bear in mind that if you don't take them far enough away the little buggers will find their way back.

300 yards seems to be the transition, in my experience..

I got a couple from Pet City when hubby brought a mouse into the house in his gym bag.

Only cost a couple of quid each and you put a bit of chocolate etc inside and leave the 2 ends open. When the mouse goes inside the 2 ends close up and you have a mouse safely caught, and can let it back outside again, safe and sound.

Only took about half an hour for us to catch ours and I went screaming down the far end of the garden with it to let it loose!

Still left the traps down beside my cooker, just in case any more mice get in while the doors are open.

Be sure to check them regularly!..
First place I look when I come downstairs each morning. Won't leave them down when I go away in case I come back off holiday to find a starved to death mouse inside!

Only problem when you catch it is the mouse can stick his nose out of the tiny air holes......hence the screaming while I was running down the garden with it :D

We had one nearly escape the trap by nibbling at the air hole making it bigger - had of put a piece of metal over it for future use (it was flimsy plastic so wasnt exactly air tight anyway). vault boy had a biiig mouse problem - they kept catching them then they'd reappear... turned out it was a whole family of them. They collected them all up in an old rabbit cage (mouseproof) and when they finally stopped catching anymore they took them all and released them onto the chase. One mousey actually gave birth not long after getting caught, so there was teeeeeeny tiny babies as well. They put a webcam in the cage so they could watch them whilst at work.
