He was recaptured after seven months at large - http://www.staffordshirenewsletter.co.uk/News/Escaped-murderer-found-by-cops123.htm

It is suspected that John Anslow may already be out of the country.

Thanks for that - nice to know that one has been captured ( for now ).

Quite scary not knowing who is out there! Just reading this in that article as well...........

<<In 2006, psychiatric patient David Morgan - who received 10 life sentences after slashing the throats of 15 women at a department store was allowed out on regular shopping trips to Stafford.
Morgan, who was being treated at St George's Hospital spent up to four hours a day wandering among unsuspecting female shoppers in places such as Asda and TK Maxx. >>

He was a patient yes,but was with at least 2 members of staff at all times, there is no way he would have been allowed out un-escorted.

He used be escorted into the kitchen/restaurant/bistro/canteen,stand at the counter and order his meal. ALWAYS wore dark glasses, used scare the crap out of us lot,you couldn't see his eyes, felt like he were watching every move you made. But,was always polite and nice.

A number of patrol cars driving around Stafford at 5.45 am this morning then as I drove by the police HQ Weston Road before 6 AM I saw 7 cars and 2 vans all leave in a convoy. I was wondering if it was an early morning alarm call?

Choppers flying over near us during the early hours of the morning. Was looking out as I couldn't sleep all night. Never thought about they might be looking for John Anslow!

Two of the five were at Cannock Mags around 3 weeks ago getting upgraded to the crown. I commented at the time I couldn't believe there was neither a police escort for the prison van or armed police presence at the courthouse for suspected criminals involved in murder with the use of firearms! Obviously someone else thought the same!

And now a prisoner has escaped while on a hospital trip, mainly because instead of using secure transport they used a bloody taxi. Not that this would happen in Stafford, oh no.

No, my friend. It was "mainly" due to the firearm being pointed at the escorting staff. Taxis have been used for prison escorts for many years. "Secure transport" costs more money, you see. Every time a prisoner is taken to hospital or elsewhere the escort is risk assessed, based on security intelligence. I would suggest that, nationaly, hundreds of these take place every day. Without the good work of prison staff, it could happen anywhere, at any time. The fact that it doesn't is a credit to them. This is a very isolated incident.

It would seem that this was well planned, as he was taken to A&E with wounds following an incident with another prisoner and met by his armed buddies on arrival. He wasn't at large for long though, and this incident will ensure that he will remain inside, at a higher security prison, for a long time.

Have a thought for the staff, eh?
