Child support Agency charging single parents

Its not all about greed, there are some genuine people who dont get a penny (mainly because if the ex isnt working then they state theres nothing to get!)
TBH yeah its crap that some people can walk away from what is a responsibility and never look back - but sometimes is better not even go there and okay its a struggle bringing kids up on your own with only one wage and one person for everything, but at least theres no nastyness, blackmail or the likes involved.

Odds are they are going through the CSA cause they need the money desperately and would find it hard if not crippling to pay £100
Unfortunately there are some who resort to the CSA because they are greedy - sometimes the absent parent has been coughing up, but the parent with custody thinks they should get even more.
Greedy! Are you for real? How can expecting the abscent parent to pay their fair share be greedy? Some abscent parents make small token gestures rather than paying the correct amount, anyone who uses the CSA system surely would do so as a neccessary means. And just because a parent with the care may earn a good wage it shouldn't be an excuse for the abscent parent not to pay the full amount. That's a ridiculous statement you made because payment would be worked out on earnings so therefore if the abscent parent was paying the right amount anyway no more money would be asked for and using the CSA to work out that payment isn't greedy it's common sense for anyone in that situation.
Take a deep breath and re-read henryscat's post.. I think you spectacularly missed his point....

Well said!

I've always paid the best I could when I've been an absent parent, but with the boot on the other foot and raising step-kids in that position is far easier on my wife than the battle would be (and even if she won the battle it's doubtful she'd get enough money to make a difference anyway).

Money eh? The route of all evil! ;)

does anyone know how csa is worked out? a friend of mine earns about 190 after tax a week and his csa payments have just gone up from £30 pw to £70. he wasn't told that the payments would change and i think its too much. After paying csa and rent he only has £20..surely that cant be right.

Alee, they say that what you're left with is enough to live on,I wish! I had to do 12hr days sometimes 7days a week to get by. When I said that the finances had been sorted out by the court,a rather snotty woman said to me - "we are above the courts".

I thought it was now calculated as a percentage of your earnings and wasn't based on the number of children it was for??
Either way £70 a week is far too much for his income, especially just for one child.

Is he on his own? If so, then I doubt they account for £100/wk rents either!!

Its calculated by a percentage of you wages ie 5% for one child and the maximum is 20% for 3 children. You then can get a reduction if you have children living with you.The CSA does not take into account Morgages/rent that you have to pay.

That certainly rings a bell.

Right... so 20% of £190 is certainly not £70 tek, he shouldn't be paying more than £38.

yeh i think about 30 sounds about right. he has just had a baby about 2weeks ago with his girlfriend aswell.. i don't see how csa can expect him and his family to live.

I do remember the CSA never used to take rent amounts into account - few years back my friends ex thought he was being really clever and moved to a more expensive flat to try and screw her over. Suffice to say he left himself in the shit, not her.
