Got an SSD - anything I should know?

Sorry you've misunderstood me... I should have made myself clearer. I was actually referring to the platter hard drive with an inbuilt SSD and smart moving technology.
I'm not the kind of person to spend hundreds of pounds on a large SSD, but if I could pick up a large platter hard drive with this kind of feature that would just give me faster access to frequently used files etc., then that sounds like a good halfway point between the two.

A few posts under my belt
Had mine for 6 months now, as a freelancer in terms of time spent waiting for stuff to load/build it has saved me way more than it's cost already.

I now just see it as a consumable item that will be replaced if it fails because the cost of not having it, is greater than the cost of having it.

Of course, that is an easy decision for me because I bill by the hour and there is a direct financial benefit from having the SSD. If you don't see that reward then it probably is not worth it.

why why why waste your money on ssd , not stable and too much reported trouble with them
I kind of feel I must agree with this comment. My friend spent £600 on one and it's been his worst nightmare!!

Mine cost just over £300, I am currently working on several largish projects for a client, just switching between projects in Visual Studio (and yes I am opening myself up to the MS abuse) used to take about 30-40 seconds. This time is now cut to between about 10 and 15 seconds. Add in the time saved opening various other software that I use all of which have seen similar increases in responsiveness and you quickly get a lot of time back in the day.

Also, you don't loose your thread of thought waiting for something to happen.

Of course, these are my reasons for owning one, as I said in the last post, if you don't have these reasons, or other justification then an SSD is probably not for you.

I should probably add I'm running it on SATAII, as I have a fairly old motherboard (5 years old I think). I'm assuming this will half my performance :(
The link that you posted for your mb states SATAIII

Are you running the latest bios?

Was excited for a second, but no its SATAII. Its just confusing as it calls it SATA 3Gb instead of using its real name.
