Today I got into a discussion with a costumer about the two different types of window cleaning aviliable.

There are disadvantages and advantages to both but I won't say anything I want to see what you have to say :)

I have absolutely no experience of window cleaning whatsoever and have no idea of the differences between the two, hence I have refrained from voting, however logic would tell me that you could only really get the bottom of the window (assuming a fair ledge) if you were above the ledge. Also, you would need to be close enough to inspect your handy work.... so I would assume the traditional confessions of a window cleaner would be a much better option!

How do I edit this?
The flats above us at work are done with a water fed pole and it just seems to make our windows dirty...

Not sure G, sometimes I'll go out without cheap date, come back and the windows are cleaner....

A close up inspection is definitly better then being so far away you cant see the tiny little marks left from insects and birds hitting the window.

No all of my relatives live in Penkridge as far as Im aware.

Yeah the people who use pole systems just create a mess.

Self cleaning glass is pointless it still needs cleaning just makes it harder for window cleaners when you realise how pointless it is.

Due to health and safety issues my window cleaner uses a water fed pole for the upper floors
Minor detail is that he does not use normal tap water for this purpose but RO water (reverse osmosis water). This does not leave any streaks or stains. It does however not remove any bird mess if it has been burned in by the sun. And the window frame is not cleaned. I rather have them do it the traditional way but i unfortunantly can't force them.

Anybody got any views on 'self-cleaning' glass?
All self cleaning glass use water (in other words rain) to clean themselves, so there shouldn't be a problem in England with their application....

Even a manufacterer like pilkington says such a thing on their website...
"Pilkington Activ™ Self-cleaning Glass uses the forces of nature to maintain a cleaner and clearer appearance."
They are not confident enough to say "to maintain a clean and clear appearance"!
But there must be a market for lazy people as they wouldn't have invented it...

I know somebody that's just had it installed on a conservatory roof, at an angle of about 20 degrees. I will keep an eye on it...

A few posts under my belt
My brother lives in a converted mill that changed over to the pole system a couple of years ago. His windows always look dirty now, and they've even cracked a couple of panes!
