I know this has already been mentioned on the "Mortal Coil" thread but thought David was deserving of his own thread.

I guess none of us can even begin to estimate the challenges he was facing and I hope he is at peace now.

My thoughts are with his brother Darren, children and family.

Indeed very sad news. All too often society focuses on the perpetrators of such things and one tends to forget how the victims cope, or otherwise in the long term.

Sincere condolences to David's family and friends.

So sad. My thoughts and deepest sympathy goes out to all his family.

A friend of his on the radio today said that he was coping with his blindness but had been in constant pain as well.

My deepest sympathy to the family, I knew his mother from working at Ritz Bingo some years ago and can't begin to imagine their suffering. My greatest condolences.

I don't normally do the RIP threads, but this saddens me.

I cannot begin to understand what grief and anguish Dave Rathband had to endure. For some it's just too much.

My deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

Yes its very sad.

I was once the victim of a nasty unprovoked assault (GBH) and initially I just laughed it off and got on with things. However a few months later I found I couldn't sleep properly at night and was having mood swings. Some people might call it depression I guess. Anyway it took a few weeks before I was back on track.
So if you multiply that up to what happened to David Rathband and then all the media interest on top I can imagine how it could consume and destroy your life.

It is very sad news to hear that David Rathband has died. My condolences to his wife, children and family. The Police have a thankless job and that's what the poor man was doing when Raoul Moat decided to shoot a policeman. RIP David.

Would it be correct to assume he's going to be buried in stafford as he was born here?

Just seen on bbc news that the procession will past the grapes on route from his sisters house. Does anyone know what the route it will be taking is?
