Victoria Park is in danger of becoming wrecked

I’m afraid to say it is. I love Victoria Park, it is a true gem and I feel that we are so lucky to have it but I fear for its future. Yesterday was of course a lovely spring day and so me, Mrs FDR and the little one took a stroll through there – I was pretty horrified.

There were people with dogs (dogs shouldn’t be allowed in the park at all in my opinion but that’s a different matter) running about all over the bowling green. A park warden did eventually come and tell them to get the f&^k off but obviously damage had already been done by that stage. There were feral kids running about all over the place, even through some of the beautiful flower beds. They (Chardonnay and Levi – yes I kid you not) were being shrieked at in Estuary English by their chavvy parents to no avail.

Matters got worse as we continued to walk through under the bridge towards the new kid play area. It was strewn with litter, there are of course bins but I guess when you are a teenager these days it isn’t “kool” to use a bin and anyway said refuse receptacles had had seven shades beaten out of them and were all dented and twisted. There were older kids harassing younger kids for having the wrong type of scooter - it was all very unpleasant

I don’t know whether this is the result of Council cuts meaning there are less park wardens or whether it was just due to the first sign of spring weather and chavs deciding to move their fast food fed asses off the couch and away from the 50in plasma but whatever it was I do hope it was just an isolated incident. If it wasn’t isolated then the Council can kiss goodbye to their coveted Green Flag park award.

Shame the skateboard section can't be closed for a day/week with the message - if you don't keep it clean, you'll keep finding it locked for longer periods of time each time... might sort them out.

Problem with that is, as always, it will be a small minority spoiling it for the majority.

Hmm, for me even if the kids in the skateboard area are littering its still much better for them to have that space than to be left roaming the streets getting up to no good. I'm sure as well that littering carries an on the spot fine of £75 in the town centre now, sad that no one was around to enforce it that but surely its optimistic that there is such a deterrent in existence.

The park is closed every wednesday morning for a couple of hours and the chappies do a brill job of cleaning it, jet washers and all, I see them every week on my way to the station.

On a positive note, as I was walking back from the station just after 8pm on Saturday night a Barn Owl came flying over the kiddies playing area before flying off towards the Crown Court, the first time I've seen a Barn Owl in the 'town centre'.

Hay look Juice there is no need to hit me with the Daily Mail thing, I was just telling it like I saw it - or perhaps you think it is perfectly acceptable behaviour to allow children to run through flower beds, dogs to desicrate bowling greens, teens to litter and harrass younger kids? I personally don't think it is - there is nothing Daily Mail about that

People have put a lot of time into the improvements, wether that be in meetings, ideas, plans or sheer graft. I find it sad that people find some the behaviour as acceptable and indeed normal. Surely the response shouldn't be "that's life"..........

Surely it should be incumbent upon all providers of parking spaces, be they multi-story or no, to provide adequate parking for the freakishly long?

I, for one, am surprised it is not mandatory.

But then, with my other hat on...
